Cooperation between the INIS Secretariat and the national
INIS centre of the USA (OSTI):
Developed a search Interface/Viewer for the Nuclear Science Abstracts (NSA) of the
Energy Citations Database (ECD).
The NSA Viewer allows the user to search records from the NSA Database without
having to search through the full ECD

The Role the National INIS Centres in Preserving Information
on Major Nuclear Accidents
The INIS Secretariat participated in a ’Consultancy Meeting on Knowledge
Preservation of Major Accidents in Nuclear Industry, 19–22 March 2012‘ at the
IAEA headquarters in Vienna. The important role of the national INIS
centres in preserving such information was highlighted.
The Secretariat initiated contact with the INIS Liaison Officer of Japan,
encouraging further coverage of published literature related to the Fukushima
Daiichi accident. The ILO of Japan gave a presentation at the 36th Consultative
Meeting of the ILOs in October 2012 summarizing the role of INIS in collecting and
preserving literature on major nuclear accidents.
Similar contacts took place with the national INIS centres of the Ukraine and the
USA.

Officers, Vienna, 4-5 October, 2012:
 The important role of national INIS centres in preserving
major nuclear accidents’ literature was stressed, as was the

“Chernobyl DVD 2005 - the Accident and its Consequences”
 This DVD was produced on the occasion of the
"International Conference: Chernobyl - Looking Back to
Go Forwards; Towards a United Nations Consensus on
the Effects of the Accident and the Future", 6 - 7
September 2005, in Vienna, Austria
 Literature on the Chernobyl accident and its
consequences is a subject well covered by the INIS
Database. The INIS resources included more than
19,000 bibliographic references in the Database and
8,400 full text documents, in the period from 1986 to
June 2005.

The Chernobyl DVD provides:
2) A search interface that enables user to look for many entry
points to find the bibliographic references, such as authors;
keywords;
countries, and other attributes
3) Over 4,000 links to full texts in pdf on the DVD. The remaining
4,400 full texts are available on microfiche from INIS.
4) A bibliometric analysis of the Chernobyl collection. This study
generated statistical summaries that characterize, in general terms,
the intellectual content of the records and their nature in terms of
their major attributes.
