NA3 eVLBI Science Forum John Conway, EXPReS Board meeting, Utrecht, Jan 30th, 2008 Year 2 Activities Major revision of rules for ‘call for proposals’ before June 1st 2007 deadline More flexible ToO policy agreed with CBD, May/Nov 2007 Poster advertising campaign for Feb 1st deadline (initiated by management team) Plan for eVLBI science conference, Nov 2008? Proposal Mechanisms (I) ‘Old Rules’ (before June 2007), a specific proposal deadline 2 weeks before each run. ‘New Rules’, June 1st, Oct 1st, Feb 1st. - General proposals, any purpose, inc monitoring, allow spectral line,18,6,5,1.3cm - Triggered proposals, to be activated within 24hrs of a run based on a trigger condition being fulfilled - Short obs (<3hrs) Proposal Mechanisms (II) Target of Opportunity rules, agreed CBD May 2007 (led by group headed by Richard Porcas)- broadened slightly Nov 2007 New ideas for proposal rules discussed at eVSAG – but leave for now. Proposals/Scheduled 2007 January 2007: 1/1 Project year 1 February 2007: 1/1 ----------------------------------------------------------------- March 2007: 1/2 Project year 2 June 2007 (old rule): 1/2 1st June 2007 (new rule): 1/2 September 2007: 1/1 --> ToO 1st October 2007: 1/1 (approved but not yet scheduled as it is a triggered proposal) 1st February 2008, ?/? Another deliverable, EXPReS Science conference, optimum 4 months before project end, November, in Crete?? Or later if we extend project? Should we extend scope slightly to ‘Real time Long Baseline radio astronomy’ – allow LOFAR, eMERLIN etc etc input as well EXPReS, help eVLBI reach wider audience?
