THE JOY OF CHRISTIANITY SERIES
The joy of having a Savior
Why should it bring us joy?
2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for
your sakes He became poor, that you through His
poverty might become rich.
Romans 5:6 For when we were still without
strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die;
yet perhaps for a good man someone would even
dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love
toward us, in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now
been justified by His blood, we shall be saved
from wrath through Him.
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are
surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let
us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so
easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto
Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who
for the joy that was set before Him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at
the right hand of the throne of God.
Acts 10:36 "The word which God sent to the children of
Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ -- He is Lord
of all -- 37 "that word you know, which was proclaimed
throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the
baptism which John preached: 38 "how God anointed
Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power,
who went about doing good and healing all who were
oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 39 "And
we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the
land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by
hanging on a tree. 40 "Him God raised up on the third
day, and showed Him openly, 41 "not to all the people,
but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who
ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ is risen from
the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those
who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man
came death, by Man also came the resurrection of
the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in
Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in
his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward
those who are Christ's at His coming.
1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall
not all sleep, but we shall all be changed -- 52 in a
moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this
corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal
must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has
put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on
immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that
is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." 55 "O
Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your
victory?" 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of
sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled; you
believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 "In My
Father's house are many mansions; if it were not
so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place
for you. 3 "And if I go and prepare a place for
you, I will come again and receive you to Myself;
that where I am, there you may be also. 4 "And
where I go you know, and the way you know."
2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose
heart. Even though our outward man is perishing,
yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
17 For our light affliction, which is but for a
moment, is working for us a far more exceeding
and eternal weight of glory,
He knows all our sorrows and griefs (Isa. 53:4)
Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, in all things He had to
be made like His brethren, that He might be a
merciful and faithful High Priest in things
pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the
sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has
suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those
who are tempted.
Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great
High Priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our
confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest
who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but
was in all points tempted as we are, yet without
sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne
of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.
Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love
of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or
sword? 36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are
killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for
the slaughter." 37 Yet in all these things we are
more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor
things present nor things to come, 39 nor height
nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be
able to separate us from the love of God which is
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without
covetousness; be content with such things as you
have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave
you nor forsake you."
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write
to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone
sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in
the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us
from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If
we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who
once were far off have been brought near by the
blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace,
who has made both one, and has broken down
the middle wall of separation, 15 having
abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law
of commandments contained in ordinances, so as
to create in Himself one new man from the two,
thus making peace, 16 and that He might
reconcile them both to God in one body through
the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.
Only the High Priest could enter it once a year on
the Day of Atonement (Lev. 16; Heb. 9:7).
Hebrews 9:24 For Christ has not entered the holy
places made with hands, which are copies of the
true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the
presence of God for us; 25 not that He should
offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the
Most Holy Place every year with blood of another
-- 26 He then would have had to suffer often
since the foundation of the world; but now, once
at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put
away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it
is appointed for men to die once, but after this
the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to
bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait
for Him He will appear a second time, apart from
sin, for salvation.
1 Corinthians 15:13 But if there is no resurrection
of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if
Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty
and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are
found false witnesses of God, because we have
testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom
He did not raise up -- if in fact the dead do not
rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is
not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith
is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also
those who have fallen asleep in Christ have
perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in
Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
