2. Take IBEST very seriously both for its
academic support and its SAI potential
Peninsula College’s IBEST Program is one of the
largest and most diverse in the state.
Programs include:
Academic
Addiction Studies
Administrative Office Systems
Automotive
Composites
Cybersecurity
Early Childhood Education
Green Building
Medical Assisting
Welding
Over 1/3 of the College’s Basic
Education for Adults is
dedicated to funding IBEST.
IBEST instructors are embedded
in professional-technical
programs and report to the
Associate Dean of Basic
Education. Coordination
between the Associate Deans,
program directors and faculty is
key to programmatic success.

4. Lessons Learned: IBEST is hard but worth it
Reward
Challenge
• Provides an opportunity for
administration to listen to
faculty challenges – and respond
• Gives students support in the
classroom where they need it
• Supports colleges SAI gains
• Often difficult to recruit and
retain faculty in part-time
positions
• Integration is a constant work in
progress
• Funding can be vulnerable
