FIBO Release Planning
OMG Technical Meetings June 2012
Submission Actions
• Editing changes – done
• Readability issues generally
– Audience
– Style etc.
• Content Section
• Conformance Section
Actions
• Produce new content section
– Agreed on the details
• Conformance
– See next
Conformance
• 1. Conformant Model extension
• 2. Conformant Model content presentation
• 3. “Content” conformance
– Is this even meaningful or useful?
– Examples: no extension should make an inconsistent ontology
– This could be framed in terms of Conformance Point #1?
• Conclusion
– Extend the conceptual ontology if necessary before doing
application;
• Do this in a separate namespace and separate ontology
• Make this conform per #1
– Then content conformance is any sub set of the FIBO conceptual
model content as extended
Working Sessions
• Conformance Reviews (off line)
• DTV Alignment
– Time concepts (securities)
– Tense relations (pricing and market data)
• Including inferred time dimension
– May slip Securities to December to accommodate any slippage in DTV
alignment work
• Event, process and other concepts
– Transaction
– Review DOLCE partitions
• Review and finalize high level model content
– GIST, DOLCE the rest
• Business SME Reviews on payments, transactions
• Operationalizing FIBO in OWL
Content Conformance
• Conformance in the OMG is not generally a
matter of conformance to content but to
model language or interface
• Conformance to a conceptual model
• People are asking to be able to have
applications conformant to modules or
individual ontologies of FIBO
– But is this realistic?
• Link this to usage scenarios?
Usages which may or may not be
conformant
• What do institutions want to do?
– Consistent communication – no conformant point
arises
– Operational ontologies
• A simple conformance point is to have a sub-set of the
terms in FIBO
• Modular conformance: state the above conformance
point with reference to one individual ontology
– The thinking: prevent extensions which violate the
semantics of the existing model
Naming Convention
• FIBO-Foundation
• FIBO-BE
• These are the formal acronyms for these
submissions and are thus reflected in the URI
path (with the common root of FIBO ahead of
that).
Plan
• No Thursday calls until after 11 July Monthly
Update
• Determine the exact sessions on that date
• Write up the specification actions
