Where We Are
• The 2014-15 school year marked many
milestones regarding data collections for
CTE within WVEIS WOW…let’s take a
closer look!
Enrollment
• Based on field feedback, our initial
Enrollment collection was postponed until
2015 in order to tweak the system
Lessons Learned
• Certifying Enrollment data within WVEIS WOW
isn’t that difficult – getting the data accurate
however…..
• Contact hours were/are not accurate and do not
follow the proper 135 hour per course
requirements due to scheduling errors
• Many erroneous students were listed
• Our work is deeply rooted in working
collaboratively with feeder high school staff
(counselors, principals, etc.)
Concentration Assignment
• This collection marked the first opportunity
to who specifically would be tracked for
future collections.
Lessons Learned
• Future data collections rely on concentration
assignment
• Feeder schools struggle with understanding
the importance of this work
• The CTE Students by Concentration reports
must be utilized and reviewed to ensure
accurate data is reflected
• Many concentration numbers appear twice as
a result of switching to the 16 clusters
Placement
• To comply with the accountability
requirements of the Carl D. Perkins Career
and Technical Education Improvement Act
of 2006, states will need to report on the
secondary and postsecondary placement
outcomes of all graduates concentrating in
a career and technical education (CTE)
program area.
Lessons Learned
• The Placement application does not allow duplicates
to be listed AND simultaneously allow continued
editing
• You MUST BE in compatibility mode
• It’s best to click submit often to ensure your data
“sticks”
• The drop down options make for easy data input
• Adding missing students takes only a few steps
– Due to inaccurate data inputs from previous years, we will
need to continue adding students manually for the next
few years
Technical Assessment Scores
PROTOCOL XII: STUDENT PORTFOLIO
• The overall goal is to assist students in assembling a portfolio
that demonstrates their talents, chronicles their achievements,
represents their writing capabilities and tells their personal
story of career and college readiness.
Do all CTE completers have to produce a portfolio?
Yes. The portfolio replaces the Educate WV/Global 21
performance assessments. This is the accountability
requirement as mandated by Federal Perkins.
Lessons Learned
• Students MUST BE assigned to a
concentration
• Program originally had many duplications
• Reported data shows scheduling errors
need addressed
• There is no minimum score required
Where Are We Headed
• Our data will soon be amassed via Certified
Collections
• Key dates will be provided up front
• Information will be provided to all parties
responsible for data collections – this includes
secondary principals and their critical staff
members who assist with this work. Training will
be provided at regional conferences. Individual
assistance may be requested.
• Language and definitions will be updated and
provided
