• SDHC was established in 1979.
• SDHC is:
• A provider of federal rental assistance;
• A partner in addressing homelessness; and
• An affordable housing developer and lender.
• SDHC serves the City of San Diego.
• Housing Choice Vouchers – 14,849 households
• Public Housing – 187 units
• SDHC-owned Affordable Housing Units – 2,233 units

Moving to Work
• SDHC is one of 39 participating public housing authorities nationwide.
• Moving to Work (MTW) statutory objectives:
• Reduce administrative costs to more efficiently allocate federal
funds;
• Provide incentives for low-income families to become self-sufficient;
and
• Increase housing choices for eligible low-income families.

Homeless in San Diego
• San Diego City and County ranked number four in the nation for
homeless people
• Of the 8,879 homeless people (individuals or families)
• 1,486 are homeless veterans
• 594 unaccompanied youth and children
• Many causes for homelessness
• Poverty
• Lack of affordable housing
• Loss of job, decrease on assistance, etc.
