Purpose and Hypothesis

Purpose:
– Find trends in infant deaths in in Section A
of the Moiliili Japanese Cemetery.
– Possible causes.

Hypothesis:
– Most of the infant deaths will be found to
have occurred before they turn 1 because
of their weaker constitutions.
– The deaths will show a trend in which
timeframe most of them occurred.

42% died before turning 1.
 14% died at 1 years old.
 11 % died at 2 years old.
 5% died at both 3 and 4 years old.

Other Observations
Some families had more than one infant
deaths.
 Majority of deaths occurred between
the 1910s and 1940s.
 Many families gave names to their
babies, but there were some who did
not.

