6 November, 2015 Tracker: Mechanical Cryo status Schedule Mechanical status: Three remaining (spare) stations will be completed: Carbon-fibre bodies being machined in Liverpool Doublet-layers prepared at Imperial Decided top service cryocooler cold head once QA of final three (spare) stations is complete Space frame for tracker #2: Parts available, not yet under construction Not pressure at the moment More details at CM20 Waveguide Status • The first production of fiber light guide has been operated with the first tracker at RAL. • G-Tech started production of waveguides for the second tracker in January. – G-Tech will finish fabrication by middle of March, and will be ship to fermilab by the end of March after checking quality in Osaka Univ. – We found that we need additional connector parts for 2 bundles of external waveguides, internal connector parts for spare tracker (tracker3) – Imperial college will provide the additional parts by the end of February. 2015/11/6 M.Yoshida Cryo Production cryostats 1 and 2 are running smoothly at operating temperature Production cryostat 3 is ready for cooldown, but was waiting completion of tests with 1&2 Production cryostat 4 has its cassettes installed Almost ready for cooldown AFE power mods complete for Cryo #1 and Cryo #2 and we no longer have any low voltage power problems Cassette 109 in cryo #2 has developed an internal leak and will have to be pulled This is the same problem that occurred with cassette 110 at RAL and was fixed (now in Cryo #4) This issue may be related to cassettes 109 & 110 either in their original fab or from the fact that they were sitting in the D0 test cryostat for over 2 years. Cryo #2 is being warmed up and will be replaced with Cryo #3. Cassette 109 will be pulled and the leak(s) fixed The AFE power from Cryo #2 will be moved to Cryo #3 Readout tests will continue this week with Cryo #1 and next week with Cryo #1 and Cryo #3 (assuming cool-down goes according to plan) Cassette characterization for Cryo #3 will also occur next week if possible Target is to ship system (Cryo #1 and Cryo #3) by 3rd or 4th week of this month Cryo on Stilts New Configuration – Wiener PS located below cryostat VLSB Testing • We’re using a test stand at FCC which sends repeating data patterns to the 4 memory banks of VLSB boards. • A two-board set-up is being used. – Preparing each board to receive data takes about a µs per board which is too long. – To get this to work, we’re sending a data trigger enable signal from a master board to a slave board via a LEMO cable connection. This takes only about 20 ns. – For MICE beam, this won’t be necessary, but it’s useful for selfinjected data and cosmic ray data taking modes. • This has uncovered some code bugs which have been corrected. 11/6/2015 VLSB Testing • What works – Suppression of zero words – Triggering on control register specified trigger word – Data trigger enable signal sent from master board to slave board in about 20 ns. – Control registers correctly indicate • Final address of memory bank with data • Number of events in a spill • What doesn’t work – Getting both boards to start recording data at the start of first trigger word. 11/6/2015 Latest Progress • We’re using firmware analyzer pod signals to get to the bottom of why boards record data at different times. • We’re aiming for updates indicating the diagnosis and solution within a couple days. • Latest firmware will be tested at FNAL cryostat/AFE-IIt/VLSB test stand as soon as possible. – Another test of AFE-IIt and VLSB firmware – Could reveal implications of differing input data streams • From AFE-IIt boards • Data pump providing repeating data patterns of simulated data 11/6/2015 Schedule: Will discuss/update at CM20 Particular issue: Coordination of schedule with heavy civil construction work in MICE Hall
