What is Computing Environment?

Computing Environment explains how a collection of
computers will process and exchange the information
to solve various types of computing problems.

Types of Computing Environments
The following are the various types of computing
environments…

Personal Computing
Client Server Computing
Distributed computing
Time Sharing Computing
Cluster Computing
Grid Computing
Cloud computing

Personal Computing Environment
Personal computing is a stand alone machine, the
complete program resides on that machine and
executed from it.

Time sharing Computing Environment
In this environment single user can perform multiple
operations at a time by using multitasking operating
system.
Here the processor time is divided among different
tasks this is called “Time sharing”.

Example, a user can listen to music while writing
something in a text editor.
Windows 95 and later versions of windows OS are
the examples for this computing environment.

Client Server Computing Environment
In this environment contains two machines (Client
machine and Server machine), both machines will
exchange the information through a application.
Here Client is a normal computer like PC, Tablet,
Mobile, etc., and Server is powerful computer which
can store huge data, manage file, manage emails,
etc.,
In this environment client request for data and server
provides data to client.

Distributed Computing Environment
This environment is one in which the complete
functionality of a software is not on one computer
but it is distributed among multiple computers.
A method of computer processing in which different
parts of a program are run simultaneously on two or
more computers that are communicating with each
other over a network
Here data is distributed to different systems but they
are logically related to each other.
