Board gives final approval to new superintendent

The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees voted
unanimously to officially approve Dr. Robin Ryan as
GCISD’s new superintendent
during a special meeting on June 14.

Ryan was awarded a three-year
contract, effective June 15, 2010.

District Highlights
Spring TAKS scores maintain high percentages in
student performance
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD students continue to show
gains on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and
Skills (TAKS), according to preliminary results of the
first and second administrations of the test. Students in
grades 3-11 throughout Texas took the TAKS in
March/April with retests in May. The Texas Education
Agency will release final results in August and will
announce official accountability ratings in the fall.

Newsweek names both high schools to list
Both GCISD high schools were included in Newsweek’s
annual list of best schools in the U.S., and were the only
Northeast Tarrant schools in the top quarter of the list.
Colleyville Heritage High was ranked 170 and Grapevine
High was ranked 342, in the list of 1622 public high schools
included in the magazine. Rankings are based on the total
number of Advanced Placement, International
Baccalaureate or Cambridge (AICE) tests given at a school
each year, divided by the number of graduating seniors.

outstanding achievements
Stephanie Bakintas, Grapevine High School, has been
named one of twelve recipients of the 2010 Outstanding
Teaching of the Humanities Award given by
Humanities Texas. The award
recognizes contributions of exemplary
teachers of history, literature, foreign
languages, government, social studies
and other humanities disciplines in Texas
elementary, middle and high schools.

Future Problem Solvers from CTMS earn Grand
Champion title
Operation iGrow from Cross Timbers Middle School,
earned the title of International Grand ChampionJunior Division, at the Future Problem Solving
Program International Competition in Wisconsin in June.
The team, coached by Terie Wied, was one of three
GCISD groups competing at the international level, and
previously had won the Texas Grand Champion title in
the Junior Division.

During a ceremony in the CHHS Library, Mercedes
Rios, CHHS Senior, received the official banner for
earning the title of Girl’s State Champion at the Texas
UIL 5-A State Golf Tournament.
The banner will hang in the CHHS
gym, commemorating her
accomplishment.

The Nutrition Services department will provide free
breakfast and lunch to students ages 18 and younger.
Breakfast is offered from 7-8:30 a.m. and lunch is
offered from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the following sites:
Cannon Elementary: June 7-July 2 and July 12-29
Grapevine Middle: June 14-July 1 and July 12-29
Grapevine High: June 7-July 2
Cross Timbers Middle: June 7-August 6

registration for GCISD campuses will be held in

March/April with retests in May. The Texas Education
Agency will release final results in August and will
