• Organization comprised 3 broad Categories:- Operating Department,
Technical Staff & Corporate Staff.
• Operating Department run as almost separate company.
• Each Operating Department has its own Manufacturing Division, R&D
Division, Information System (IS) Group
• There exists Matrix like Structure having inter-departmental reporting
structure.
• Some centralization is observed in Technical Staff like Central Research
& Development, Engineering, Information System Department.
• Historically ISD received little attention from top management.
• The retirement incentive measures resulted in loss of expertise.

Organizational Factors leading to Du Pont’s Success
• Centralized Information Systems Department and autonomy
in decision making resulted in creation of separate AI unit.
• Formation of AI Task Force on the basis of knowledge, skill
& experience resulted in desired output.
• Members of Task Force were chosen with diversified
qualification and background & with core competencies.
• Focus on vision and transferring it to its members by Ed
Mahler formed a cohesive team.
• Artificial Intelligence Task force had grass root approach
where it had autonomy.

1) Autonomy resulted in creativity, without any interference from top level
management.
2) Fostering informal relationship resulted in employee satisfaction.
3) Focus was on functionality rather than efficiency approach augmented
the success.
