ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS (AT EVERY CAMP / HUT):
•COMFORTABLE SLEEPING HUTS (BED & MATTRESS).

•MINERAL WATER, SODA, BEER AND CHOCOLATES
•RADIO CONTACT WITH THE PARK HEADQUARTERS.
•PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY

REVIEW:
Also known as the ‘Coca Cola Route’. The main and by far the most
popular tourist route and some claim the easiest route to ‘Uhuru’
Peak (the summit). With a high success rate! With the 5 day climb
option, makes it the least expensive route to climb.

MACHAME
ROUTE

REVIEW:
This is probably the most scenic and most beautiful route to the
summit. The scenic traverse of this route offers some stunning views!
The 6-day route is however physically more challenging than the
Marangu route nevertheless, it allows the climber to see the whole
southern face of Kibo. ‘No huts’ – means less comfortable tented
accommodation!

REVIEW:

RONGAI
ROUTE

This is the only route that ascends from the
northern slopes of the mountain. It is very similar
in nature to the Marangu route, but it involves
camping. The addition of a sixth day offers a
unique opportunity to visit Mawenzi tarn and the
northern amphitheatre of Mawenzi.

REVIEW:
It is a remote, unspoiled and very beautiful route to the Roof of
Africa. The forest around the Lemosho Glades is rich in big
game animals such as elephant and buffalo, which may
sometimes require a game ranger to accompany climbers on
the first day. This route is however a long route which requires
7-days for a comfortable completion, which also makes it
more expensive.

•CAVE CAMP EXPIRIENCE

REVIEW:

This route is one of the shorter but also one of the
more difficult routes to reach Uhuru peak however,
quite spectacular and takes a total of 6days to climb.
Umbwe is known for its caves. The first night you
actually sleep at the Umbwe Cave Camp with two
more caves that can be visited en route the following
day. Also sometimes used as a descending route.

•LARGE GAME SIGHTING

REVIEW:
Rarely used due to its isolated position, between 2 and 3
hours drive from Moshi. Starting from West Kilimanjaro, there
is the added bonus of encountering large game during the
first day’s walk necessitating the need for an armed ranger on
this day. We recommend this route for its isolation as the
chances of seeing anyone else over the first four days are
rare and the longer time it gives you for acclimatization.

REVIEW:
Mount Meru is one of Africa's highest and most beautiful volcanoes. The
route to the summit passes through parkland, mountain forest, a giant
heather zone and moorland. Finally, the summit is reached by a narrow,
barren ridge which provides stunning views of the Ash Cone lying several
thousand feet below in the crater and Kilimanjaro in the background. Over
400 species of birds, rhino, elephant, buffalo, baboon, warthog, black and
white Colobus monkey and duiker are all found in this delightful 'gem
amongst parks'. The visit to the Ngurdoto crater and Momella lakes, with
their superb scenery, flamingoes and other wildlife, is an unforgettable
experience. This is a tough 3-4day walking trip with some steep terrain and
dormitory style huts, however it is a cheaper alternative to Mt. Kilimanjaro.
