WAAAUB Mission
The mission of WAAAUB shall be to strengthen
the ties between the American University of Beirut
(the “University”) and all its alumni and to engage
all alumni in advancing and supporting the goals
and the educational, research, and service mission
of the University.
WAAAUB shall foster the educational, career, and
socio-cultural interests of the University’s alumni
and shall work to preserve and promote the rich
heritage and values of the University.

WAAAUB Past
2007-2008 Founding Year
• WAAAUB Elected and established its governing
bodies (WAAAUB Board, Council, Executive,
and Standing Committees)
• WAAAUB Board worked closely with WAAAUB
various Standing Committees to develop the
WAAAUB strategy (Board and Standing
Committees) and to make sure that the
proposed strategies are in line with WAAAUB
mission.
• WAAAUB held its First Convention

WAAAUB First Convention 2008
•
WAAAUB Held its first convention in Beirut, attended by more than
100 participants representing the following countries: Lebanon,
Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, KSA (Riyadh, and Eastern province), UAE
(Dubai, and Abu Dhabi), Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Pakistan, Cyprus,
Greece, United Kingdom, Canada (Ottawa), and USA (Atlanta,
Washington, and New York).
•
Attended by majority of the Board and Council members (11 Board
members and 78 council members)
43% of the council members present were from outside Lebanon.
25 AUB alumni chapters and branches worldwide were present in
the convention
Main outcomes of the convention:
• The WAAAUB Standing committees finalized their
strategies
• WAAAUB Leadership had the opportunity to meet and
discuss issues of concern to AUB alumni
• Introduced the WAAAUB model to AUB alumni leadership
• Explained the WAAAUB bylaws and their objectives

Promoting WAAAUB
•
Promoting the WAAAUB model to alumni leadership
worldwide. For that purpose the WAAAUB Board in
collaboration with the WAAAUB Chapters Committee
Conducted three regional alumni chapters meetings
that aimed to achieve the following:

To develop stronger links and coordination among
AUB alumni chapters in a specific geographical
area
To develop the communication process between
the AUB alumni chapters and the WAAAUB
governing bodies
To solicit AUB alumni chapters feedback on
WAAAUB Chapters Policies and Procedures and
bylaws

Major Achievements in 2009
• Held its second convention
• Completed the WAAAUB second election
• Developed the WAAAUB internal
communication processes (between WAAAUB
Board of Directors and WAAAUB Standing
Committees)
• Evaluated and recommended changes to the
WAAAUB bylaws
• Formulated the strategies for the various
WAAAUB Standing Committees
• Implemented various WAAAUB activities and
events

• The WAAAUB convention was attended by 84
participants representing the following countries:
Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia (Riyadh, and Eastern province), Bahrain,
Dubai, Qatar, Oman, Cyprus, United Kingdom,
Geneva and US and Canada.
• Council members attendance was surprisingly very
low (47 members out of 130 members).
• Attendance of council members from outside
Lebanon was slightly higher than those attending
from Lebanon (25 council members from outside
Lebanon vs. 22 from Lebanon).

WAAAUB Mission
