Air cabin crew look after the welfare, comfort and safety of passengers
travelling in the aircraft.
Preflight briefing - They are briefed by the captain on expected weather
conditions, special passenger problems etc.

They check emergency equipment in the aircraft.

The aircraft and toilets are tidied and seat pocket information put in
place.

Meals and beverage for the number of passengers on board is checked.
First-aid kits and other emergency equipment are checked.


They greet passengers coming aboard, check their tickets, and assist
them in storing carry-on luggage.

When passengers are seated, they check that doors are closed and seat
belts fastened.
Before take-off they demonstrate the use of emergency equipment and
point out exit doors and notify the pilot when they are ready for takeoff.






They serve meals and drinks. Meals are usually
pre-packed and stored in hot cases.
Sell duty-free goods such as alcohol, perfume
and tobacco.
Make announcements on behalf of the pilot, and
before landing they check that safety belts are

International Airlines recruit airhostesses in the age group of 1835 years.
Good language, ability and proficiency in English, Hindi, a regional
language and at least one foreign language are essential
requirements for inflight crew members working for National or
International carriers. Physical requirements - Height for Air
Hostesses - minimum of 157.5 cm and Flight Pursers 163 cm with
proportionate weight.
Normal eyesight without glasses or a minimum uncorrected distant
vision of 6/40 is acceptable.

Selection
National Carriers - Scrutinise applications and conduct written test
comprising of general knowledge, mental ability and verbal ability for
shortlisted candidates. This is followed by an interview and group
discussion.
International airlines conduct a preliminary interview during which the
measurement of height and weight of the applicants is checked and
candidates then take a written test which consists of general knowledge,
mental ability, language ability (including vocabulary, listening, reading,
speaking test for Hindi and English). This is followed by a main
interview, during which the candidate's language fluency, diction, voice,
communication skill, personality and reaction to adverse situations is
assessed. Candidates are expected to have good knowledge of the
aviation industry.
Training - Selected candidates are trained by airlines. At various stages
of training, practical and written tests are taken. After completion of the
initial course, entrants have to go through a probationary period of onthe-job training with the airline under the supervision of experienced
cabin crew for between six months to a year.




Legal manager- is responsible for handling all
legal formalities related to the airports. They are
responsible for all legal matters concerning the
airport they are assigned.

Cargo managers oversee the team loading and

also in-charge of storage in warehouses,
transportation, documentation and dispatch of air
cargo.

English), precis writing and comprehension of a given
passage, (in English only).
***Physical efficiency test - This is a test to ensure
physical fitness. It comprises of 100 meters (16 sec), 800
meters races (3 miin), long jump 3.5 meters men, high
jump 1.05 meters men, shot-put (4.50 meters, 7.26 Kgs).
Three chances are given for long and high jump.
****Interview - Beginning with questions pertaining to the
bio data, the interviewers move on to hobbies, subjects of
study, general awareness and general intelligence. The
candidates psyche, aptitude, mannerisms and etiquette
along with the dedication to the cause of the nation are
also assessed by the Board.
Preference in selection is given to outstanding sports men

Newspaper journalism
Newspaper work is broadly divided into two
streams: the field and the desk.
Field work
Journalists are assigned to cover political issues,
law and order, sports, education, local affairs and
the like. Journalists may be assigned to specific
‘beats’ to cover all happenings in that area.



They cover news stories, national and local
events to inform it’s readers what is
happening where, why and how.
The main job entails witnessing events and
reporting in a style which influences people
to react to the changing scene.
The local reporter, the national affairs
correspondent, the foreign correspondent,
sports, travel and other specialist writers all
go outside the office to collect information
and file news reports.




Desk work
This is an office job. Sub-editors or copy
editors process these ‘stories’ for
presentation with headlines.
They are responsible to see that the ‘story’ is
objective and has no personal bias.
Reporting and subbing are complementary
and are vital functions in the editorial
department.





In the newspaper office
The team in a newspaper office is headed by the
editor under him there are sub-editors,
correspondents, special reporters, reporters and
freelance journalists, photojournalists etc.
Editors
Plan the contents of the publication and
supervise its preparation.
Administrative duties of editors include hiring
writers, planning budgets, negotiating contracts
with freelance writers, etc.






Associate or assistant editors
