OBJECTIVES
1.
2.
To analyze linear motion of moving object To determine displacement, velocity and acceleration of a linear motion
INFERENCE
1.
2.
Linear motion is a motion along a straight line Velocity is uniform when acceleration is zero and non-uniform when acceleration is non zero
HYPOTHESIS
1.
2.
3.
Velocity is speed in a given direction Acceleration is the increase of velocity over a period of time Deceleration is the decrease of velocity over a period of time
TICKER TIMER
RUNWAY
POWER SUPPLY
TROLLEY
JUMPER WIRE
RULER
LAB JACK/CLAMP
PROCEDURES Apparatus must set up as in figure 1 Inclined the runway about 1m – 2m, so it will make trolley down freely from rest Using cellophane tape, attach the ticker tape Release the trolley freely and switch on the ticker timer
Figure 1
ANALYSING THE DATA 1.
2.
Mark and number every 10 dots as figure 2 Cut and paste ticker tape into 10-dot strips on the graph paper as figure 3
displacement 15 10 5 0 40 35 30 25 20 t1 t2 t3 t4 t5 t6 displacement Figure 3
1 2 3 4 5 6 Number of 10 dots strips Total time = number of strips x 0.2
Total displacement of the trolley Average velocity of the trolley v= total displacement / total time Acceleration of the trolley a. Initial velocity u= length of first strip/ time for 10 dots b. Final velocity v= length of last strip/ time for 10 dots c. Time for acceleration, t (number of strips – 1) x (time for 10 dots) d. Acceleration a= (v – u) / t Average velocity v av = (v + u) / 2 8 strip 1.6 s 1.452 m 0.9075 m/s 0.185 m/s 1.575 m/s 1.4 s 0.993 m/s 0.88 m/s
ANALYSIS
We have obtained acceleration and deceleration happens when the court track sloping. Acceleration are increasing while velocity increase
ERROR ANALYSIS
10 DOTS ON CARBONIZED TICKER TAPE IS NOT CONSTANT WHEN USING CELLOPHANE TAPE
QUESTION
Is there any difference in the value of average velocity between Result 4 and 6? Explain your answer.
Yes. Because in Result 4 is total displacement Divided by total time, however in Result 6 is velocity plus initial velocity and divided by 2.
CONCLUSION
1) 2) 3) The hypothesis accepted.
We must read and measure dots on the strip carefully.
The trolley not move if the jumper wire at a wrong position.
