BBW Karoo Road Trip – 2015 Day 1 – 22.08: You arrive in SA at O R Tambo International Airport, Gauteng. You will be greeted by Elize and Hester and we will start our BBW journey for our first destination, Parys. Check in and relax! Days 2 - 3: Discover the fascinating little town of Parys. The unique surrounding in which the town of Parys is situated, had its origin roughly around 2000 million years ago when a giant meteorite struck the earth just south east of Vredefort in the Free State Province . The impact structure that was subsequently formed has come to be known as the Vredefort Dome, the oldest and largest meteorite impact site on earth, measuring about 200km in diameter. Many artists have settled in the town turning it into a hub of fascinating shops filled with delightful antiques, artwork, handwork and “bric-a-brac” as well as restaurants with divine home-made food and exciting adventure attractions. Days 3- 5: We continue our BBW road trip to Mokala Game Reserve, and spend two blissful days in peace and beauty, sighting wildlife and listening to bush facts and stories as well as photographic tips from Elize. You will also have your “own soul” time. Days 5 - 8: We travel further south west passing small Karoo towns and stopping at one of the many "Padstalle" for lunch and a break on our way to our next destination Calvinia where we’ll meet and stay with Sonja and Dirk van Rensburg. We’ll do some mindful activities and spend time with the local Khoi people. Founded in 1851 on the stunning Oorlogskloof River and named after religious reformer John Calvin, Calvinia lies at the foot of the dolerite-topped Hantam Mountains (Hantam being a Khoi word meaning ‘where the red bulbs grow’). Calvinia enjoys 80% starlight and the night sky is simply awesome – come gaze at our stars! Days 8 - 10: Tankwa National Reserve, a backdrop of stunning natural beauty and flowers to “feed “your soul. Days 10- 12: we start our slow drive to your final destination Cape Town down the Botterkloof Pass and meander down to the Atlantic through more of South Africa's beautiful landscapes and towns like Clanwilliam. Tonight we sleep in Langebaan, delight in local seafood and fall asleep to the sound of the waves of the Atlantic Ocean meeting sand and rock. We continue through the Swartland mountain region which begins only 50 kilometres outside of Cape Town. This incredibly beautiful, yet often overlooked, area is named for its wide fertile plains that, after the rains in winter, turn black (swart land means black land in Afrikaans). Riebeek West and RiebeekKasteel, twin towns that lie virtually on top of one another at the foot of the Kasteelberg, are extremely popular and we’ll spend some time here. Day 12 – 13: Arrive in Cape Town, check in and select unanimously on activities in CT such as: Wine farms at Stellenbosch or Kirstenbosch / Franschhoek / Table Mountain / Cape Point / Boulder Beach and Penguins / Hout Bay and Chapman's Peak / Robben Island or simply shopping in the city and Waterfront Day 14 – 05.09: Depart from Cape Town International Airport .
