UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI
NAIROBI, KENYA
Background
The University of Nairobi dates back to 1956, with
the establishment of the Royal Technical College,
which admitted its first students for technical courses
in April of the same year.
At Kenya’s independence in 1963, the idea of an
inter-territorial University saw the creation of the
University of East Africa and the Royal Technical
College became its constituent College. In 1970,
through respective Acts of Parliament, the three East
African States created a University each. Thus, the
University of Nairobi was born.
