Emergency
message
Service centre:
GPS position is 2 hours old,
but she ‘s in the
shopping centre
Emergency and Safety
Condition check
• The service centre sends condition
check messages to the user at
predefined intervals
• The
user
acknowledges
the
message confirming he is ok
• If the user is unable to reply to the
message the system activates an
alarm and the service centre takes
appropriate actions
• If the condition check function is
activated by the service centre, it
cannot be turned off locally
Emergency and Safety
Send Position
• Send position sends the last known
GPS position to Service Centre
• User can write additional information to
the message
• User has also the possibility to freely
select the number where the positioning
message is sent
Emergency and Safety
Location Request
• Service centre can locate the VectroPhone Track by
sending a location request message
• The response always provides GPS co-ordinates,
despite the validity of the information
• Position information will be automatically sent to the
requesting number if the number is authorised
• If the service centre number is defined but the
authorisation is entirely disabled, the response
however, is always sent to the service centre
number
• If the request comes from an unauthorised number
user is prompted either to accept or to refuse it
while also showing the number from where the
request is coming from.
Emergency and Safety
Assistance call
• The device can be configured to send an assistance
call request message and/or activate a voice call to
predefined number
• The device can be configured to answer
automatically to calls coming from the Assistance
call phone number, which improves usability
• In all cases the SMS sent will include both GPS coordinates and network measurement report
• The assistance call can be selected from the Quick
Menu of the Track. It can also be reached faster
from the Normal Idle State by pressing the arrow
keys up or down for a longer time.
Emergency and Safety
Refresh Position
• refreshes the position when needed
• can be useful when the GPS has entered into sleep
mode or is switched off
• After the refreshing procedure the GPS will return to
previously configured mode, this happens also if
update of the position was not possible
Remote configuration
Remote Configuration
OTA service
• Remote update of phone configuration by service
centre
• Update can include:
– telematics settings
– GPS operating mode
– phone numbers related to telematics
MPTP

SMS
Service
centre
Remote configuration
Activation of telematics services
• All safety and emergency service settings are activated
remotely (MPTP message) by the service centre
• User needs a service subscription for the safety and
emergency function to be active
• Service is deactivated with message from the service
centre
• If the user changes his SIM-card, the service centre will
be notified with an MPTP message each time the phone
is switched on, until service centre acknowledges it and
registers the new number
Positioning technology
GPS positioning
• GPS ; satellite positioning is based on a system maintained by the
US Military
• There are 24 active satellites in the sky and the GPS-receiver in
the VectroPhone Track Pro is able to receive signals from the
satellites
• The position determination works outdoors and takes place once
the device receives signals from at least three suitably positioned
satellites
• The accuracy of the position depends on the satellite coverage,
which is affected by solid objects and weather; e.g. cloudiness,
snow, surrounding tall buildings and heavy tree cover
• The accuracy of the GPS positioning is about 10 meters
• The position is represented as co-ordinates, e.g.
N 21°45‘27” E 21°45‘27”
• The system shows the position as a point on a map
Positioning technology
Network Positioning Support
• The VectroPhone Track is positioned primarily by
the GPS system
• Service centre can also request GSM network
parameters
• For calculation of the position you need a separate
server, available from VectroPhone Partners
• Accuracy of the position depends on the distances
between a base station and the device and between
different base stations
• Accuracy of the network positioning is at its best
about 100-400 meters and the positioning also
works indoors
Positioning technology
Assisted GPS
- Fast initial position
• Track has capability to receive assistance to the
GPS receiver in order to quicken the initial position
calculation
• Requires a third party station server
• Used if the phone is lacking satellite coverage
• Assistance over the MPTP binary coded protocol
• Message will contain ephemeris and UTC time
• Rough position e.g. GSM network. (Cell-ID, CI-TA)
