Pepe’s story
Pepe is the kind of person everyone would like to be.
Always in high spirits, always with something positive to say.
When someon would ask him how he was, he always said:
“I couldn’t be better!”
Vesuvio dal Sorrento
He had changed jobs a number of times and many of his colleagues
followed him.
The reason they followed him was because of his attitude. He was a
born leader.
If one of his subordinates was having a bad day, he was always
there to indicate the positive side of the situation.

One day I decided to see him
and asked him.
I don’t understand. How can
you always be so positive?
How do you do it?
Pepe replied:
“Each morning I wake up and say to myself: “Pepe, you have two
options now: You can be in a good or in a bad mood. I choose to be
in a good mood.
Every time something goes wrong, I can choose to play victim or to
learn something from the experience.
I choose to learn".

Each time someone comes over to whine, I can accept their
whining or I can show them the positive side of life. I choose to
show them the positive side of life.
- Yes, of course, but it isn’t that easy, I replied.
- “Yes it is”, was Pepe’s answer. Everything in life is a question of
choice. If you simplify the entire situation, it all sums up in one
choice.
- You can choose how you react to each situation, you can choos
how others influence your mood, you can choose to be in a good
or a bad mood
- In one phrase
You choose how to live your life.
Tramonto d'Oro
I gave much thought to what Pepe said…
Because we moved, we lost touch but I frequently thought about
Tivoli - Villa d'Este
Pepe whenever I had to make a decision.
Years later I found out that Pepe did something you are not
supposed to do. He left the door unlocked and three armed
robbers entered his home.
La casa sulla collina
When Pepe, trembling from fear, tried to open the safe, his hand
slipped. The robbers panicked and shot him.
Pepe was fonnd relatively quickly, so we rushed to the hospital.
After 8 challenging hours in surgery and weeks of recuperating
Pepe came out of the hospital with plenty of bullets in his body.
Six months later I met Pepe and asked him how he was doing. His
answer as always was: “I couldn’t be better!”
Ravello
When I asked him what crossed his mind on the day of the
robbers, he said:
-
“When I was injured, lying on the floor, I realized I had two
options: To live or to die. I chose to live.”
Posta del sol
“Weren’t you afraid?” I asked him. Pepe replied: “The medics
were great. They kept on telling me that everything was going
to be OK. But when I was taken into surgery and saw their
expressions, then I got scared. I could read it in their eyes
“This guy is dead”. Then I realized that I had to make a
decision.”
Positano
“And what did you do?” I asked.
Pepe replied: “When the doctor asked me if I was allergic to
something, I took a deep breath and said:
“Yes, I am allergic to f*c!in bullets!”.
While they broke out in laughter I told them: “I choose to live.
Operate on me as if I am going to survive, not as if I were
dead.”
Pepe survived thanks to the doctors but mostly because of his
remarkable attitude. He had learnt that every day, we have the
choice to live fully or not. In the end, attitude is all that
matters.
In sum
And overall
Who you are
How you feel
How others see you
How you live
Is your decision.
