Karri Gum used by Tropicdane is FSC certified and tracked under a clear Chain of
Custody.
Maintenance
Karri Gum is an all-weather resistant hardwood with a natural oil content which helps to
protect it from the elements. Nevertheless, to maintain its natural glow, regular oil/wax
treatments are needed. The wood used by Tropicdane is unstained to allow the natural
color variations to appear.

Pre-shipment
Treatments
Tropicdane pre-shipment treatments protect your furniture for at least one season.
Sealant ensures the timber does not react to humidity and that it withstands the sun.
After sealing, the wood is sanded and treated with Cobra Oil, a water based blend of
seven oils and waxes, which penetrate the wood and leave a waxy, water repellant
surface film.
Recommended
Summer Oil/wax
Treatment
1. Remove all dirt and dust by washing with a mild natural soap or soda. (Follow
manufacturer’s instructions if you are using a finished outdoor wood-cleaning
product, available on the market.)
2. To remove spots or dark marks that do not disappear in the cleaning, lightly sand
with sandpaper of grain 120 to 240. (Do not use steel wool, as small fibers will mix
with the wood and rain/humidity to form rust.)
3. Apply a think film of Cobra Oil with a clean, dry cloth, avoiding hinges and
hardware. Hinges and hardware may be treated with acid-free oils designed for
metals.
4. Leave the oil to penetrate for 24 hours.
5. Buff with a clean, dry cloth.
6. For added protection, repeat Steps 3 through 5.
Recommendations
for
Winter Storage
1. Store in a cold, dry location, such as an unheated garage. (If stored in a heated
room, wood will dry and shrink, causing some connections to loosen.)
2. If you wish to cover your furniture, note that plastic often promotes mold or growth
or will leak; furniture covers are available in stores.
3. Oil/Wax treat, as per Summer Oil/Wax Treatment.
Recommendations
for
Spring Outdoor
Placement
1. Two weeks before use, remove furniture from its winter storage and place in its
new location so it may naturally absorb the humidity of the air.
2. Tighten all screws and bolts.
3. Treat surfaces of legs, which touch the ground with a sealer or outdoor glue to
avoid ground humidity to penetrate into the wood.
4. Oil treat, as per Summer Oil/Wax Treatment.
Stains
Mold
Tree Sap
Sun bleaching
Spilled food or drink should be dried off immediately, to avoid staining the wood.
In the outdoors, organic particles from rain, tree saps and other matter may cause mold
spots. To prevent, lightly treat with Atamon. To remove apply Redalon, Soda, or
Chlorine, lightly sand with sand-paper of grain 180 to 220, followed by a thin film of
Cobra Oil applied with a clean dry cloth. Finish by buffing with a clean, dry cloth.
Remove the sticky sap with warm water.
Apply a thin film of Cobra Oil or equivalent high quality oil/wax mix hardwood oil.
During the drying process we add some
ammonium in order to bleach and equalize the
color differences of species and inner and outer
part of the trunk.
The color (stain Oil ProSeal) is added as a UV
protection and to give a nice equal color.
