Marcel Iureş was born on the 2nd of August 1951 in
Băileşti, Romania and is one of Romania's most

Between the periods of 1974 to 1978 Marcel studied at
the Institutul de Artă Teatrală şi Cinematografică in
Bucharest and graduated from there in 1978.
He made his stage debut at the Bulandra Theatre,
Romania, in the 1975 production of “The Farm”, playing
George. From 1978 to 1981 he acted at the National
Theatre Cluj, in many of their productions, such as
Beckman in the play “Outside the Door” and Conifeul in
“The Persians”. At the same time his stage career was
starting, Marcel was given his first real screen break in

Marcel's international film career sprang from the UK
tour in 1994 of the director, Mihai Măniuţiu's production
of Richard III, where he played the eponymous hero.
His meteoric rise to international fame came after
portraying the role of Alexander Golitsyn in the 1996 film
"Mission Impossible". This was quickly followed by his
magnificent portrayal of Dušan Gavrič in the 1997 film
"The Peacemaker". Starring alongside actors such as
George Clooney and Nicole Kidman, Marcel's past and
recent body of work remains to this day impressive,
boasting a number of wonderful performances that
include film roles in “Hart's War”, “Pirates of the
Caribbean 3”, “Goal”, “The Famous Paparazzo”,
“Isolation”, “The Great Holiday” and “The American
Fiancées”.

Throughout the late 1990s and into the 2000s, Marcel's film
career especially in Western films consisted mainly of roles
associated with his ethnic background of being an Eastern
European. Those worth mentioning are “Hart's War” (2002) in
which he brilliantly played Camp Commander Cornel Werner
Vissser, “Goal!” (2005) in the role of Newcastle United football
Manager and “Isolation” (2005) in which he played the role of
the European scientist "John".
A change in direction in his film career came about in the late
2000s. When he did his first ever voiceover for Disney studios,
in the Romanian version of the animation film “Cars”. This was
closely followed by the film role in “Pirates of the Caribbean 3
– At World's End” (2007), in which he played a French Pirate
Lord, Capitaine Chevelle. This then resulted him in doing the
voiceover in the P.O.T.C. 3 computer game, yet another first in
his most successful and extensive career.
