ASTM F1233-98: Standard Test Method for Security Glazing Materials
and Systems
This test method sets forth procedures whose purpose is limited to the evaluation of the resistance
of security glazing materials and systems against the following threats: Ballistic Impact, Blunt tool
Impacts, Sharp tool Impacts, Thermal Stress, and Chemical Deterioration. Specifically exempted
form this test method are the use of power (motor or engine-driven) tools or devices, explosives,
military ordinance (excepting small arms) and tools, processes or devices requiring more than two
persons to transport and operate.

acceptance conditions for evaluating the normal operational performance and their performance
characteristics under assault conditions of detention glazing used in window and door assemblies in
detention and correctional facilities; thus, these test methods only give an indication of their
performance characteristics of detention glazing in actual service. Such variables as installation and
maintenance conditions are not considered except as otherwise included in this test method
.

Glazed Curtain Walls, Doors and Storm Shutters Impacted by Missile(s)
and Exposed to Cyclic Pressure Differentials
This test method determines the performance of exterior windows, curtain walls, doors, and storm
shutters impacted by missile(s) and subsequently subjected to cyclic static pressure differentials. A
missile propulsion device, and air pressure system, and a test chamber are used to model some
conditions which may be representative of windborne debris and pressures in a windstorm
environment. This test method is applicable to he design of entire fenestration or shutter assemblies
and their installation. The performance determined by this test method relates to the ability of
elements of the building envelope to remain un-breached during a windstorm.

Method for Glazing and Glazing Systems Subject to Airblast Loadings
This draft standard is a modified version of ASTM 1642-96. Modifications have been made to
reflect the GSA’s needs. The tests performed for GSA and by contractors for GSA since 1996 have
used this protocol. The tests have been performed in enclosed concrete reaction structures. Test
charges have nominally been 500 LB of TNT equivalent.

systems against airblast loadings. This test method allows for glazing to be tested with or without
framing systems. This test method is designed to test all glazing and glazing systems, including
those fabricated from glass, plastic, glass-clad plastics, laminated glass, glass/plastic glazing
materials, and film backed glass.
