TOWER STATION
IN ITALY . . . .
Can you see the airplane in the circuit ?
What do you expect from a correct
and reliable traffic monitoring?
• Locate air traffic to and from airfield in a clear and easy
visualization.
• Monitoring movement and position of ground vehicles
and airplanes.
• Possibility to monitor position, groundspeed and
altitude of an airplane operated by a student pilot.
• Support for debriefing of a take off, circuit and landing.
• Automated traffic log.
Traffic monitoring: a NEW concept

Tower view: Create anywhere a virtual tower and look
in any direction to see traffics
• Place tower anywhere over map
(or directly over 2D map)
• Change Tower’s altitude
• Rotate view around 360°
(or directly over 3D map)
• Possibility to look up and down
• List of all airplanes around airfield
Tower view: Other options
• Start a traffic recording
• 2D and 3D view
Traffic monitoring: 2D map
• Shows traffics near airfield and in circuit
• Permits a correct horizontal separation
• Map shows points of report
Traffic around Trento airport
Traffic to Malpensa airport
Traffic monitoring: 3D view
•
•
Permits a correct vertical separation

3 Traffic on sight (FLARM code):
•
DDA508 on downwind
•
DDA4C2 on short final
•

Single airplane monitoring: Plane
• Possibility to lock a specific airplane directly on 2D map
and follow its movements from the virtual Tower
• Display ground speed
and altitude of
selected airplane
• ZOOM function
• With
replay of a recorded file, review circuit and landing

Trasponder and FLARM
Trasponder mode S ADS-B extended squitter on an
aircraft or a surface vehicle periodically broadcasts its
state vector (horizontal and vertical position, horizontal
and vertical velocity) and other information.
In 2008 all certificated aircraft must install a Trasponder
mode S.
FLARM normally used by gliders, uses radio
communication and GPS position to advice other
FLARM in proximity.
Limitation for light airplane to
use Trasponder mode S
Installation of a transponder capable of sending high
power pulses needs a special supervision and
interference control from authority.
Upgrading of an existent transponder to the new
standard needs certified installer and a new clearance.
Costs involved may be significant.
