However, the spelling of some verbs changes in other ways when you add –ed. Some verbs end with e. Drop the e and add –ed. race + ed = raced joke + ed = joked Some verbs end with a consonant and a y. Change the y to i when you add –ed. cry + ed = cried worry + ed = worried Some verbs end with one vowel followed by one consonant. Double the consonant and add –ed. stop + p + ed = stopped hug + g + ed = hugged Try it Out!
