stem of the verb is.
Start with the ~ます form:

Talking about activities and events,
using ~で ~があります
We learned last semester that あります is
used when we want to locate an object.

ねこはテーブルの上にいます。
In this chapter, we find that we can use it to
tell about the place of an event. This time
we must use the particle で.
れい:
先生のうちでパーティがあります。
Note that で is used to mark the place where
an EVENT is held, where に is used to
mark the location of an OBJECT.

Final Oral
For the final, you will sign up in pairs and come to
my office to do role plays such as inviting
someone to do something and going to a
restaurant and ordering. If the scenario calls for
three people, I will be the clerk or waitress.
Unlike in previous orals, this time you have to be
prepared to be a bit spontaneous. I will give you
a scenario card once you enter my office. You
will have one minute to decide who will do what
and then you will start.
You may pick your partner. But make sure you can
come at the same time!!!!
Final Oral Possible Scenarios
Scenario 1
You are at restaurant in Japan for lunch.
The waitress will greet you. You will
decide on things to eat, place the order
and then pay for it with your partner in
Japanese. You both must be active
participants in the conversation.
Scenario 2
You call your Japanese friend’s house
to invite him to your party. You may get
your friend or you may get his mom.
Make sure to ask for your friend. Make
sure to conclude the phone call.
Scenario 3
You and your friend go to a department store
in Japan. Inquire about what floor the
men’s/women’s clothes are on. You will have
to buy something once you are there. (I will
tell you when you come for the oral, so
review your vocabulary) You must do the
following:
– Ask how much it is.
– Ask for a different color or size
– Pay for it.
You both must be active participants in the
conversation.

You will receive a slip of paper with a day of the
week on it. This is the day you are free. In the
blank, fill in an activity (such as seeing a movie,
going for a picnic, shopping….) that you would
like to do. Find someone who also has the same
day free and negotiate what you will do. This
means you could do both activities or just one.
Work out the details such as where to go, what
time, where to meet etc. You have minutes to
accomplish this task. がんばって下さい。

action. Those who are in your group must
state it including all particles correctly
