THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD
JANUARY 11, 2015
 From the Desk of Father John...
While I Am Away...
We welcome to Holy Rosary for the
two Sundays I will be gone Fr. Jim
Winzerling. A priest of the
Archdiocese of St. Louis, Father has
served in numerous parishes and
roles, including as a hospital chaplain.
As I was transferring here, Father
asked to come out for Mass, as he has
family in the Warrenton area. I am
happy that he is able to come and be
at Holy Rosary while I am away.
During the week, there will be Mass on
some of the days, communion services
on other days. This situation is the first
symptom of the priest shortage
beginning to really pinch the
Archdiocese. It is a reminder to all of us
of the need to pray for vocations and to
encourage vocations, even from our
own families.
While I am away, one of my
responsibilities is to celebrate Mass for
you, the parishioners of Holy Rosary, on
Sunday, whether or not I am at the
parish. Thus, even though we will not
be able to see one another, we will meet
in prayer before the Eucharistic Christ
today and next Sunday as well.
Healing Mass
At the 8:00am Mass on Saturday,
February 7, we will be celebrating a
Healing Mass for those who would like
to receive the Anointing of the Sick, or
to come to pray for a family member or
friend who is sick and in need of
prayer.
The Anointing of the Sick is one of the
Seven Sacraments of the Church. Once
called Extreme Unction, it was solely
for those in extreme danger of death.
After the Second Vatican Council, the
Church returned to the more ancient
understanding of the sacrament, which
calls it to be celebrated with those who
are sick with a chronic illness, about to
undergo surgery, or who are
experiencing the effects of being
advanced in years.
There will be more information about
this Mass in future bulletins, but please
mark your calendar for this Mass if you
would be interested in attending.
Class on the Gospel of St. Mark
I will be presenting my next class on
the Gospel of St. Mark beginning on
Tuesday, January 27 at 7:00pm in the
School Library.
This eight week course will take two of
the chapters of St. Mark's Gospel per
week and provide an opportunity for
reading them, commentary, and
prayerful reflection on them. This class
is suitable for anyone interested in this
Gospel from high school on up. Please
prayerfully consider joining us for this
class.
Also, in conjunction with this class,
please consider helping us plan
upcoming offerings for adult
education! Please join our newly
forming adult education committee.
The signup sheet is in this week's
bulletin.
Dinner Auction
Come and have dinner with me...and
your fellow parishioners on Saturday,
January 24, immediately following the
5:00 Mass. This first event of our 150th
Anniversary Celebration not only will
be a fun event, but will be a great event
for supporting our school and our
students who daily come to learn and
be encouraged to grow in their faith
and all other areas of life. Hope to see
you there!
I am remembering you in prayer! Fr. John

our parish. Would you like to become a part of this committee? No experience needed just a desire to be
a part of a great faith educational experience.

Baptism of the Lord: “After me
comes he who is mightier than I, the
thong of whose sandals I am not
worthy to stoop down and untie.” –
Mark 1:7 We are put on this earth to
love God, love our neighbor and make
disciples. How many times does our own pride and ego get
in the way on fulfilling God’s plan for us? Humbling
ourselves before God and putting Him first in all things
should be our top priority.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of:
DORMA WILDERMUTH,
Mother and mother-in-law of
Pat & Linda McCullum, of our parish
May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
