Fourth Sunday of AdventDecember 21, 2014
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Friends,
Our Advent waiting is coming to a close. We welcome the Lord into our
hearts and lives in a special way at Christmas—although we endeavor to do
this throughout the year.
Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary we are blessed with our sacraments and
our many ministries which help us to see the face of Jesus in our world. We
welcome those who are visiting with us this week. If any have questions for
our members,
I know we will answer and provide the kind of hospitable welcome that is so
characteristic of our parish.
We are most pleased to be able to provide a Christmas gift to those
attending our Christmas Masses. This year the Archbishop is providing us
with copies of Life’s Greatest Lesson by Allen Hunt. We have inserted Pope
Francis’ 10 Secrets to Happiness, which you can also read and, perhaps, use
as a bookmark.
On behalf of our wonderful staff we want to wish you all the most blessed
of Christmases.
Thank you for making our parish the special place it is.
God bless you,
Fr. Tom

STEWARDSHIP ALIVE
Worship & Serve
Ministerio Hispano
Anderson Township, Mt. Washington, Amelia, u otras
comunidades vecinas, le
invitamos a formar parte
de IHM. No se pierda esta
maravillosa oportunidad
de compartir con otros que
comparten su misma fé.
Stewardship Reflection
“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!”
—Luke 1:28
Faith is a gift from God. During this Christmas season
take time in silence and pray to God. Thank Him for all
the gifts He has given you. Try to set aside any anger or
resentment you have and really open your heart to receive
the gift of God’s grace.
Food From The Heart
Collection THIS Weekend
The collection will be December 20 & 21 for SEM Food
Pantry. Southeastern Ecumenical Ministry Food Pantry
distributes food to applicants who have been screened to
ensure eligibility.
By donating just a few cans or boxes of non-perishable
food items or toiletries such as shampoo, bar soap,
or deodorant, we can help families who have fewer
resources than us. Please bring donated items to church
this week and put them in the bin provided in the
vestibule. For additional info please call Sherrie Heyse
at 474-1514.
Don’t Forget to Include Jesus
on Your Christmas List
We celebrate the birth of Jesus—the most precious gift
an all generous God has given us. It is also a season of gift
giving and receiving. We may not have treasures of gold,
frankincense, and myrrh to offer Him, but we have our
gifts of worship, service and support.
Please include Jesus on your Christmas list and:
• Pray more and spend time with Our Lord in Adoration.
• Consider volunteering for a parish ministry in 2014.
• Invite someone to attend Mass with you.
• Make a year-end gift to your Church and other
charitable organizations through a cash/check donation
or by gifting stocks that have increased in value and
that you have held for more than one year. Remember
all year end giving must be completed by Dec. 31, 2014.
If you are interested in making a stock gift to IHM, call
Kathie Hayes in the parish office at 513-388-4183.

Help needed for all our Christmas Liturgies
Families needed to greet and bear Gifts at all the
Christmas Masses
There are 2 masses at 3 p.m. Christmas Eve. The other
times are 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and Midnight. Christmas Day times
are 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
We are looking for 2 or 3 families to meet and greet at the
doors of the church at each of these Masses. In the spirit
of being a “Welcoming” parish we would like to be able to
greet all the people who might be visiting or only come to
our church once or twice a year. We will reserve seats for
the families who greet. You will need to be there 40 minutes
before the start of Mass.
We are also looking for families to bring up the gifts at
each of the Christmas Masses. You will need to be there
15 minutes before the start of Mass and check in with
the coordinator.
If you and your family would like to do one of these,
please call or e-mail Carol Braun 528-4866,
[email protected].

your help to cover all the Masses. Call or e-mail Carol Braun

Upper Room, bring a friend with you.

held THIS Sunday, December 21, following the 7:30

Health Tip:
December is Safe Toys and Gifts Month!
When it comes to toys and gifts, the desire to give children
their favorite toys may cause us to overlook some important
safety guidelines. Here are some suggestions:
• Look for toys that have a solid construction and sturdy
design so they will not break, crush, or pull apart easily.
• Read labels to make sure the toy is not a fire hazard.
• Try to know what type of toys to select for the age of the
child. It is best to avoid toys with small parts, sharp edges
or points, guns or other toys that “shoot” flying objects,
toys with ropes or cords, or electric toys with heating
elements.
• Remember that “protective gear” is important to prevent
injuries especially if giving sports equipment.
• Check crayons and markers before purchase to make sure
they are labeled “nontoxic”.
• And lastly, happy shopping for all of the good boys and
girls on your list!

Program for Divorced or Separated—
Returning on January 8th
By popular demand, IHM will be repeating, “The Catholic
Divorce Survival Guide”, Thursdays, January 8, and
continue for 12 weeks.
The Catholic’s Divorce Survival Guide is a twelve-part
program that brings healing and hope to divorced and
separated Catholics. With the help of expert counselors,
theologians, and priests, author and presenter Rose Sweet
guides participants from pain and loneliness to hope and
healing. Practical advice meets spiritual growth through
the Sacraments, the teachings of the Church (including
the Theology of the Body), and wisdom from experts and
others who have suffered through divorce. As divorced
and separated Catholics experience this pastoral program,
their lives are rejuvenated, their hope is restored and their
faith in Christ and His Church is renewed. Cost of the
book is $15.
This program will be held in the Guadalupe Room in
Church at 7 p.m. Please sign up through the Formation
Office at 388-4189 or email [email protected] 15th Annual IHM Women’s CRHP

15th Anniversary
Twinning IHM/CCBN
March 23, 2001 Catholic Telegraph paraphrased from
article by Eileen Connelly, OSU
In a small war-torn country where much of the population
lives in poverty and oppression, Fr. Jan Schmidt, Pat
Berning, Maureen Kelly Dufour, and Sue Keefe made a
trip to Nicaragua as part of the twinning relationship the
Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish formed with the Cultural
Center of Batahola Norte, a ministry co-founded by Sister
of St. Joseph of Medaille Margie Navarro.
IHM’s 15-year twinning relationship had its origins at
a meeting of the parish’s Social Ministries Commission
and a desire to become involved in global solidarity. The
Archdiocesan Mission Office facilitated the relationship
between IHM and Batahola. Sr. Margie visited IHM twice
to tell parishioners of her work in Nicaragua where she
served from 1983 until her death in 2001.
While IHM is dedicated to helping Sr. Margie continue
her work and do whatever possible to help, Fr. Jan, then
pastor at IHM, stressed that the parish sees twinning as a
mutual relationship based on prayer and the opportunity
for all involved to learn from each other. IHM parishioner
Maureen Kelly Dufour said, “We can’t go down there
with the attitude of being saviors. We have to be open to
what can be learned from the people there, so much about
generosity and caring.”
According to Fr. Jan, “The twinning relationship has been a
growth experience for IHM. It has opened our eyes and our
hearts to the needs of others beyond us. The response of the
parish to the twinning relationship has been phenomenal.
Entering into this relationship can enrich the life of the
parish. People will realize what they have and the good
that has been given to them, and, out of gratitude, they will
reach out to others.” As for the relationship between IHM
and Batahola, he said, “It will change the people here and
will help the people there.”

it is a time of sadness and loneliness.
Sometimes we need to talk to a professional to help us get
