Thanks to all who so generously assisted with our Christmas Liturgies and
other celebrations.
You so beautifully enhance our parish celebrations
throughout the year, but especially during this Christmas season. Our parish
is alive and vital because of your dedication and generosity and that of so
many others. Thanks for enhancing our liturgies and our parish life this
Christmas!
Father Tom and Your Fellow Parishioners
Christmas is made so special through the kindness and thoughtfulness of so
many people. Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful cards, delicious

Forgiveness – one of the hardest things for people to do.
It’s amazing how long we can hold a grudge or be angry
with someone. As we celebrate the feast of the Holy
Family, take this opportunity to give the gift of forgiveness
to someone - maybe someone in your family, maybe a
friend, maybe a co-worker or neighbor or, maybe yourself.
Pick up the phone or text someone right now.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT MEETING
January 10, 9:00AM
St. Luke Rm.
Are you finding it difficult coping with a major loss such
as a spouse, parent, sibling, or a friend? Living with a loss
and getting to a “new normal” can be one of the most
difficult challenges you’ll ever face. Fortunately, there are
steps you can take to go through the grieving process.
If you have photos from events or of the parish that you
would like to share or comments/suggestion, please email
them to Ray Martin [email protected].
You are not alone. We care and understand what you are
experiencing. We offer comfort and encouragement during
difficult times. We are the Bereavement Support Ministry
at Ascension. Available anytime you need an ear to listen
or a shoulder to cry on. We meet the second Saturday of
every month in the St Luke Rm. after 8:30am Mass for
support and education (and breakfast!) Contact Jean in the
office for further information, 681-3348.

SPACE RESERVATIONS
Whenever you have something planned at Ascension and
you are serving food or drinks, before you buy paper
products, centerpieces, serving pieces, tablecloths, coffee,
tea, lemonade, etc., please check the area behind the
kitchen for any of your needs. The “Monday Morning
Marthas” are stocking these items for the whole parish to
use to cut down on costs, duplications and time. Different
ministries will not automatically be reimbursed for these
items anymore. The area is checked and restocked every
week. If you see that we are low or you are having a very
large function, please let the office or your staff liaison
know. The other areas that are being routinely stocked on
a weekly basis include: The St. Matthew, St. Mark, St.
Luke St. John Rooms, and the St. Martha Rm. (Bride’s
Room).
We are gearing up for the Annual Mission Trip to
Guatemala! Leaving on June 16, returning on June
22. We have labor positions and can accommodate
professional (dentists, nurses, hygienists, etc.) also. We
are staying at San Lucas Mission for the work portion, then
travel high into the mountains to visit our sister Parish and
have Mass. Please mark your calendar for January 12 at
7:30pm in the conference room for an informational, hourlong meeting to see if this is something you and your
family would be interested in. Brochures are available on

WEEKLY PRAYER
THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE
New Parishioners
Pope Francis has declared this coming year as the Year of
Consecrated Life. This recognition of the consecrated
religious men and women acknowledges and celebrates the
wonderful witness and service of these special people. Our
Church has a beautiful tradition in which those called to
live the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience manifest
their commitment to Christ with the gift of their whole
life.
Additionally, through their self-giving lives they
have made possible our Catholic schools and universities,
our hospitals and orphanages, our mission outreach and our
service to the poor and needy. Who of us has not been
affected by the beautiful gift of consecrated religious men
and women? This year we honor all those - past and
present - who have given their lives in service to God’s
People as vowed religious. We pray not only in gratitude
for their lives of witness, but also pray that those being
called to the consecrated life today will respond with
generosity and enthusiasm. Please pray the following
prayer during this year of the Consecrated Life.
Mr. & Mrs. Adam Blakely and Family
Mrs. Linda DeCarlo

PRAYER FOR THE YEAR
OF CONSECRATED LIFE
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and
men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the
evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience.
During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks
for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of
inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make
a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to
enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters
who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the
Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Many thanks to all those Knights, parishioners, and their

Poor of Jesus Christ. The building, when the project is
completed, will also house homeless women whom the
Sisters work with. Channel 4 News was present and there
will be a broadcast of the work project in the near future.
Many have asked how they can financially assist the
Sisters in their mission. We have set up a website,
www.gofundme.com/helpthesisters, where you can make
a donation. All donations are greatly appreciated.
Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Groups meet on
Sundays. AA meets from 1:00pm-2:00pm; and Al-Anon

MINISTRY OF CARE
Divorced? Separated?
Divorce is a detour, not a dead-end. You are STILL an
important and loved part of our Church!
Divorce is so
difficult. The foundation on which you built your life has
now crumbled beneath your feet. You are searching for
peace, for truth, for hope. We have no support group
currently meeting, but are planning one in the future. Call
Jean in the office for area support groups.
We need a weekly person or two on Sundays at 10:00am
as soon as possible! Also, if you can sub for others that
are away, please go to the list at:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090a44aba7238adoration and sign up for an hour.
Contact Debbie at [email protected] or 913485-8918 if you need a substitute, can take a permanent
Holy Hour, or have questions.
Are you Grieving a Miscarriage or Trying to Deal with
Infertility?
It may feel like you are all alone, OR you deal with things
differently than your spouse. You may feel guilty for not
being happy for others, OR people don’t know how to
support you or what to say, we do.
SCHOOL OF RELIGION
Office hours: Monday - Thursday
9:00AM - 4:00PM
681-7683
Respite Care
Are you caring for a loved one at home? We have
parishioners who want to help and who are trained in
Respite Care and would love to give you a break! And it
gives the one you care for a break from you!!!
SOR Christmas Break Schedule:
Sunday, December 28th - No AM (K4C) or PM (Year I/
S&L).
Prison Ministry
We provide to all persons incarcerated in Johnson County
jails, juvenile facility and Wyandotte County
juveniles weekly access to Mass or Communion Service, to
Catechesis or Scripture Study, to the
ministry of
presence and facilitate regular access to Sacrament of
Reconciliation. We participate in a letter writing mentoring
program and Mentor for Success through the State Prisons.
Kids can participate (and adults) by making cards with
pictures drawn, Bible verses, messages of hope, etc. using
card stock, construction paper, magic markers or colored
pencils (no crayons please), and first names only. Visit our
website at www.sdpo.org. This is an Ascension Ministry in
conjunction with other parishes, all are welcome and
needed! Contact Jean in the office for more details.
Family Celebration: It’s still the Christmas Season. Keep
those trees up and continue to celebrate the wonderful Birth
of our Lord with your family by special family traditions
(it’s a great time to create some new ones). For more ideas
go to your google search and type in catholic culture and 12
days of Christmas and it ought to be the first link to click.
There will be a meeting on Thursday, January 22, in the
parish hall at 7:00pm. Back by popular demand, *GAME
NIGHT*. This will also be our gift gathering for Mardi
Gras. *Drinks,*, *Food*, *Games* and *Fellowship*.
For additional information on any of the Ministry of Care
groups or activities, please contact Jean Hinman at
[email protected] or call Jean in the parish office
at 681-3348. Thank you.
