Dear Friends
At the outset let me wish all of you the very best in the coming year. A year has passed by quickly. A lot
of things have happened in the field of cardiology. Two major guidelines have come in Hypertension
and Lipidology
Lipidology.. A lot more exciting things are in the anvil. It is now becoming extremely difficult to
keep pace with all the advances taking place in the field of cardiology .The scientific sessions in the
Annual Conference of CSI are meant exactly to fill this gap to the busy practicing cardiologists and
physicians. Not only should we keep abreast with what is happening elsewhere in the world but also start
initiatives in clinical research in India so that we make pioneering contributions in the field of cardiology
in clinical, interventional, therapeutic and preventive aspects. We had set in motion a research
methodology workshop to stimulate the younger generation of cardiologists in the country to pursue
careers in research in the last CSI Annual conference in Banglore. Dr. H. K. Chopra, the President Elect,
CSI and his team have started the preparations for Scientific programme for the next CSI annual
Conference to be held in Hyderabad in December 2014. With their commitment and sincerity of purpose
I am sure that you will be experiencing an excellent programme in Hyderabad which will satisfy your

The General Secretary invites recommendations for the following:
1.)
Smt. Uma Rani Banerjee Memorial Oration (This oration shall deal with any aspect of Ischaemic Heart Disease)
2.)
Dr Amalananda Das Memorial Lecture
3.)
Dr V. V. Shah Oration (NSPHERE Oration)
4.)
Dr K. K. Datey Memorial Oration ( Sponsored by Sun Pharmaceuticals)
Recommendation should be sent to the Hon. General Secretary, CSI about the prospective candidate with 6 copies of bio- data and
list of publications for consideration by the special committee dealing with Orations, Lectures andAwards.
(i)
The nominee must be a member of CSI for minimum continuous period of 5 years. He/She must be of Indian origin
and have worked in India.
(ii)
Must have had academic/research experience of not less than 5 years.
(iii)
He/she must have a total of at least 15 publications in the field of cardiology, in journals of repute and also Indian
journals.

The proposer must submit a written proposal seconded by another member.

The proposal must be accompanied by:

List of publications as the first author

List of publications as the joint author

Three of the best publications
(v)
Title/Titles of subjects on which the nominee is likely to speak.
Any person who has received an oration within the last 5 years is not eligible for another oration till the
stipulated period is over.

Requirement for Awards
A)
PROF BASU MEMORIAL AWARD
Age of the candidate must be below 45 years.
B)
CSI TRAVEL AWARD
This award is applicable to the members of the CSI who are currently undergoing post graduate training
in cardiology. Their age must be 35 years and below. These papers should have been accepted for
presentation at the annual conference of the CSI.
C)
MODI MUNDI PHARMAAWARD
The nominee must be a member of CSI for a minimum continuous period of 5 years.
He must be of Indian origin and have worked in India.
He must have academic/research experience of not less than five years. Age of the candidate must be
below 40 years.
Minimum publication of 3 in index journals.
D.
NAVIN C NANDA YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD
This award pertains to the field of Echocardiography and will be held during the Echocardiography and
CME programme on the first day of the annual conference of CSI.
The award is restricted to individuals below the age of 40 years OR 5 years after eligible qualification
whichever is less.

The paper submitted should be an original work that has not been presented elsewhere, nor sent
for publication in any journal. This will be certified by the principal investigator and endorsed by
the head of the department.

The candidates should send a brief CV, including prizes, medals or other awards along with the
papers.
•
The candidate will not be eligible to compete for any other award in the same year.
•
Five copies of the full article should be submitted
•
The selected speakers will be informed about their papers before 30th September, 2014.
•
If the Papers are found substandard then no award will be given.
Candidates should apply for awards in the following proforma duly certified by the HOD of the
institution. Name (i) Age, (ii) Address, (iii) Qualification, (iv) Present Occupation, (v) Appointments
Held, (vi) Prizes, Medals and other awards, (vii) Papers presented or published, (viii) Comments and
counter signature of the HOD of the institution and a certificate from the HOD – that the candidate is the
principal worker in the project.

The candidate should submit 6 copies of full papers. These papers are to be considered for the award
session. The selected speakers will be informed in due course of the papers thus selected for the award
session.
For CSI TravelAward
The award committee will decide on the merits of the papers and the work done by the candidate for the
selection of the award. For acceptance the candidate will have to submit 4 copies of the full papers to the
award committee. A candidate will not be eligible to compete for more than one award in the same year.
If the papers are found substandard then they will not be considered for award.

Guidelines for Case Submission
Case presentation format:

CD format with selected sequences for presentation inAVI format only.
There should not be more than 8 sequences, if possible during case presentation.
Ashort case summary to be included with salient features in clinical history and relevant ECG,
X-ray etc.
A take home message from the case, including technical tips, would be essential to be accepted for
presentation.
The scientific committee will score the presentation according to the following criteria:
Teaching message, any learning tip, originality of the case, rarity of the case, any unanswered
question of the presenter for audience interaction.

Participants will be informed of the scientific committee decision latest by 1 October, 2014. Accepted cases
will be presented orally ( 8 mins duration - 5 mins presentation & 3 min discussion )

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
•
Abstract must be submitted on an original Abstract form with 3 photocopies along with
CD.
•
In case you have more than one abstract, you can use high quality photocopies of the
enclosed abstract form.
•
Do not fold the abstract form
•
Abstract can be submitted by e-mail.
•
Abstract can be typed in single-space in English using atleast 9 point size font and must fit
inside the designated space.
•
Type the abstract in order of title, authors, institution and text which should be left aligned
and includes aims & objects of study, methods, results and conclusions.
•
Authors should be listed by initials and surname. Name of presenting author should be
underlined.
•
Standard abbreviations are acceptable. Uncommon abbreviations must be put in parenthesis
and preceded by the full word the first time it appears in the text.
•
Tables and graphs can be included if they can fit within the rectangle. Photographs will not be
accepted. The presenting author must also be registered delegate for the conference.
•
Abstract must be submitted by July 31st, 2014.
