FR. ROMULUS ROSOLOWSKI, OFM CONV.
was named President of the first annual
Lackawanna, NY Dyngus Day Parade
on April 21, 2014, following the
celebration of the 12:10 Mass. The
modern Dyngus Day celebration has
become a focus for reestablishing pride
in an American Polish identity and
Lackawanna has joined the numerous
celebration sites in Western NY which
has become nationally known as one of
its centers. Dyngus Day is celebrated
on Easter Monday and traditionally
translates the symbols of Easter using
water and pussy willows (the Polish
equivalent of palm branches) into a
playful exchange between the sexes as
well as opportunity to enjoy plenty of
traditional foods and drink to end the Lenten fasts. The Lackawanna Parade is billed
as the world's shortest since it's a polka hop, skip and a jump from Our Lady of
Victory Basilica to City Hall where dignitaries of varied ethnic backgrounds proudly
proclaimed their American-Polish heritage for a day and hoisted the Polish flag.
In an April 5th letter to Fr. James McCurry, OFM Conv,
the Knights of the South Lewis Houseville Council
No. 7794 Knights of Columbus, Port Leyden, NY,
after a March 31st unanimous vote, they formally
submitted a request of approval of the name change
of their council to
REV. PASCHAL RYS OFM CONV. COUNCIL NO. 7794
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS.
The letter also stated, “It is the belief of our members
of this council that without the inspiration, initiative,
mentoring and prayers of Fr. Paschal Rys, this council
would not exist today ... We are humbled to look back
at the many accomplishments we have had, as we
persevere to support our community, those churches,
their families and our fellow knights.”

Hail, Lady and
Queen, Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Virgin who became
the Church, chosen
by the Father in
heaven, consecrated
by His beloved Son
and His Spirit, the
Comforter: in you was
and remains, the
whole fullness of
grace and everything
that is good.
Hail, His Palace, hail,
His Tabernacle, hail,
His Dwelling, hail,
His Robe, hail, His
Handmaid, hail, His
Mother!
O Holy Mother, sweet
and fair to see, for us
beseech the King,
your dearest Son, our
Lord Jesus Christ, to
death for us
delivered: that in His
pitying clemency, and
by virtue of His most
Holy Incarnation and
bitter death, He may
pardon our sins.
Holy Virgin Mary,
among all the women
of the world, there is
none like you.
You are the daughter
and handmaid of the
Most High King,
Father of Heaven.
You are the mother of
our Most Holy Lord
Jesus Christ.
You are the bride of
the Holy Spirit.
Pray for us, with
St. Michael the
archangel, and all the
powers of heaven
and all the saints,
to your Most Holy
and Beloved Son,
our Lord and Master,
Amen.

Novitiate Formators
The Ministers Provincial of CFC, after their quadrennial selection process, approved to
recommend that Fr. Giles Zakowicz, OFM Conv. continue serving in the position of
Novice Director at the Interprovincial Novitiate in Mishawaka. Each of the four
Provincial Chapters, and the Definitory of the British/Irish Custody, will need to confirm
Giles’ nomination as Novice Director for the new quadrennium. These votes will take
place during the first phase of each provincial chapter.
Moreover, the CFC further approved the appointment of Fr. Maurice Richard, OFM Conv.
as Associate Novice Director. This appointment does not require action at the
respective provincial chapters.
The entire conference is very grateful to Br. Paschal Kolodziej for his lengthy service as
Associate Novice Director. His wisdom, gentleness, compassion, and humor have left
indelible marks on a generation of novices. He is deserving of everyone’s fraternal
appreciation. May his dear Mother Mary continue to foster his Christ-bearing ministry.
