Another month has flown by and the
winter weather is here in force. This
week I have been lucky enough to
travel to Canberra for four days with
the Loddon Murray Community
Leadership Program participants. We
complain about the cold weather
here, but our version of cold is nothing in comparison with Canberra. As
part of my visit to Parliament House,
I was lucky enough to have conversations with many Politicians, one in
particular was Andrew Broad who
introduced us in his address to Parliament (see below). I had the pleasure
of attending the US Embassy, the
War Memorial and the CSIRO.
Whilst there was much friendship
and laughter, there was the more serious side of sharing of ideas that will
assist our communities in remaining
sustainable.
The entire program has been amazing, and I can hardly believe it is midway through. However, with many
wonderful experiences to come in
the next few months, and the networks I have made, the benefits of
attending this program will live on
forever. If you ever get the opportunity to participate in this program,
please take the challenge and do it.
You would not regret your decision.
Anyway, until next month:

“Mr BROAD (Mallee) (13:34): Today I rise to talk about the people who come
from my electorate.. This week across the parliament we have been blessed to be visited
by the Northern Mallee Leaders—and some of them are in the foyer at the
moment—and the Loddon Murray leadership group. One of the things that is
important about building rural communities is building capacity. We actually build
wealth when we build capacity in our people. When we invest in people we lift their
eyes to the opportunities that are around them. I have a strong belief that many
electorates do not have strategic plans—and strategic plans are good things to have. In
my electorate, our strategic plan is this: we are going to build wealth by building
capacity and we are going to build community by building interaction. When you get
people together you build a sense of self-worth, you build a sense of community. Sport
plays a role in that. Community groups play a role in that. And in doing these things
we really do drive a great society. The people who are doing the Northern Mallee
Leaders program and the Loddon Murray leadership program are people who are
contributors, people who really have a passion for their community. As part of the
program, they have to deliver a project, and it will be really interesting to watch the
project they will deliver across the region. They are resilient, they are determined, they
are passionate, and it is great to have them in this parliament today.”
Where are they now?

Wycheproof Youth Report...
This year is flying by and the end of school is getting
closer for the year 12 students. The Wycheproof Youth

however after the holidays we intend to get busy
preparing for our AGM and election of new Office
Bearers. All new Members are welcome and encouraged
to see either Clare, Georgia S, Meg F or myself for more
information. We have been working with Wycheproof
VISION to apply for the lease on a new Youth Room,
more information will follow when we have confirmation
of our successful application.
Anyway, have a great month,

Locals who lunch
Would you enjoy sharing lunch once a month
with other Community members?
Many people in our Community eat alone day after
day and in an attempt to connect our Community,
Wycheproof VISION would like to invite any interested persons to join them for lunch on the 3rd Friday
of each month. The first lunch is July 18th and will be
at the Royal Mail Hotel (however we will alternate
venues).
Please book in with the hotel if you wish to attend. If
you require more information, please call Amanda on
0407 844 904. Transport can be arranged.
In lasts’ months Wycheproof On Track, we
asked the Community for their comments
on a proposal to move the VLine bus stop to
Centenary Park. We wish to thank those
people who took the time to submit their
comments; however, we would like to extend the opportunity for another month so
more people can have their say.
Please drop your comments regarding this
proposal in to the Wycheproof Community
Resource Centre. All comments will remain
confidential. Many thanks for your time.
Hi, Jules Cassidy here,
Just wanting to let you know that the Resource Centre is setting up a service for people looking
to have a confidential talk about their alcohol and/or drug use. You can meet me to discuss the
good, the bad and the ugly of how alcohol and drugs are affecting your life. We can talk about
cutting down, stopping, resources and referrals. I have been a community worker in this field
for many years and the service will be totally confidential and free. Have a think
about it, and maybe send me an email or leave a message with the Resource Centre
to set up a time to talk.
My email is: [email protected]

Are you supporting the local businesses that support your club?
Shopping locally saves on fuel, avoids queues, and keeps money and
businesses in our town.
Following Wycheproof VISION’s letters of complaint regarding the unpublicised closure of
the ANZ branch on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we were invited to a meeting with Ralph de
Souza (Regional Manager), Fern (St Arnaud Manager) and Tracey (Swan Hill Rural Financier)
The ANZ Bank has made a commitment to open for 12 hours per week over 3 days, and have invited the

Primary Winter Sports
Thursday 12th June students from Grade 4-6 travelled to
Boort for the Annual Winter Sports Day. Everyone had
the opportunity to participate in their chosen sport of
Football, Netball, Newcomb or Hockey.
To make up team numbers children from Wycheproof,
Boort, Wedderburn, Pyramid Hill, Charlton College and
St Josephs combined to make up teams to form a
competition. Despite the cold and showery weather, play
continued and everyone had a great day.

Jack Arnel ready for
a day of hockey.
Melbourne Urban CampGrade 5/6’s were very excited to be travelling to
Melbourne for their Annual School Camp. After a short
delay with the bus breaking down the group caught the
train in Bendigo and headed off. Over the four days in
Melbourne the class got to experience IMAX, the
Museum, Melbourne Jail, Eureka Skydeck, Shrine of
Remembrance, Aquarium and Federation Square. A trip to
the city would not be complete without a visit to the
Queen Victoria Market. The train from Southern Cross
got the class and teachers safely back to Bendigo before a
bus and car trip to Wycheproof. Another very successful
camp.
Community Police News
With Leigh JOHNSTONE
I have posted an article about the drug
“Ice” that appeared in “The Age” a couple
of weeks ago. It is on the notice board
near the newsagent. It gives information
about the drug in point form.
A big thank you to Whitney Boyle, who is
co-ordinating a funding application to have
some experts on the drug come to town
and run an information night. We will
advertise the time and place when they
are confirmed and all will be welcome to
attend.
These efforts are part of the commitment I
made at the Community Forum in
February to give information about this
prevalent drug. I have recently charged a
local man with possession of drugs. He will
appear at St Arnaud Court in coming
months. Other investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with information of suspicious
activity should:

Wycheproof Vacation Program
What can your children, or visiting niece, nephew or
grandchildren do in Wycheproof in the school
holidays.
Did you know that for almost the last decade that the
YMCA Ararat Children’s Services has been operating
Wycheproof Outside of School Hours (OSHC) and
Vacation Program (currently) in Room 24 at Wycheproof
P-12 College. Hi, my name is Julie Grimshaw and l am
the coordinator of this program, my predecessor was Bev
Coles. I am very grateful to Bev who still helps me and
works with me in both the OSHC and Vacation Program.
What is the Vacation Program.
This program is offered 7 weeks a year; two weeks in
Term 1, 2, & 3 holidays and one week during the summer
holidays. We operate Monday-Friday from 8am-6pm.
We provide an inviting, warm and supervised social
environment for young children. There are lots of things
to do like cooking, craft, art, gardening, all types of games
and plenty of time for just playing and making and
enjoying friendships.
Usually once a week, we take the school bus (a very big
thank you to Wyche P-12 College), and have an out of
town excursion.
How much does it cost?
Every family is entitled to receive some fee relief. The
scheduled daily fee is $50, however this is reduced firstly
through the Childcare Benefit, and subsequently through
the Childcare Rebate you receive 50% of your out of
pocket expenses.
You will find a copy of the vacation care program in
town at the following locations:
1. Noticeboards on Broadway-outside the post
office and the supermarket
2. Shop windows at the Resource Centre and the
Op Shop
For more information
and bookings or
enrolments please
contact:
Julie Grimshaw

Operation of the daily program is dependent

Bus passenger car parking reminder Concerns have been raised within the community,
that bus passengers have been monopolising prime car park spaces in Broadway. Bus
passengers are reminded, that if you are taking the bus for a day trip to Swan Hill or
Bendigo, to please park your car on the west side of Broadway or in O’Connor St, east of
the Post Office. This has worked well in the past and frees up car parks so that people with
limited mobility have easier access.
