and Incas and the roles of Cortes,
Montezuma, Pizarro, and Atahualpa
To understand the impact that
the Spanish Conquistadors such
as Cortes and Pizarro had on
the Aztec and Inca Empires
•A conquistador is an explorer who
settled in Americas in hopes of
finding treasure.
 Conquered the Aztec empire
in Mexico in 1519-1521
 Born in Medellin, Spain
 Parents hoped he would
become a lawyer
 Nick name was ‘Killer’
 In 1518 Cortes conquered Montezuma
( the Aztec empire).
 When he conquered Montezuma, he
ordered to conquer all Aztec people.
 He had over 1,500 fighters, and
over 1,000 of them were natives!
Cortes was able to kill Montezuma
because of…..
1) Thousands of horses and guns
2) Secret information going back to his
people
3) Smallpox and other diseases spreading
Cortes ended up dying in
Seville, Spain in 1547!
