Cappadocia which is unique in the world and is a
miraculous nature wonder is the common name of
the field covered by the provinces of Aksaray,
Nevsehir,Nigde, Kayseri and Kirsehir in theCentral
Anatolian region.

BILSEM is a special education
institution, related to the Ministry of
National Education, and was founded in
the purpose of making the pre-school,
primary school, and secondary school
students with gifted and talented abilities
aware of their individual abilities and
making them use their capacities at most
by enhancing their capacity.

BILSEM, opened in 2005/2006 educational year,
gives education to the students of primary school at
3rd, 4th and 5th grade who have been accepted to the
center as a result of a general ability and IQ tests. It
provides education under circumstances open to every
environmental condition, multi-purposed, efficient to
cooperate both in social and psychological aspects in
a motivating way.

BILSEM consists of 380 students and 30
teachers in total. The students go on their primary
school education with their other friends at their
state schools. In their free time out of their
schools, they participate in the programs set up by
BILSEM. The period and the duration of the
education are determined in terms of the interests,
abilities and needs of the students.

The purpose of BILSEM is to grow up individuals
who are adaptive and devoted to Atatürk’s principles and
revolutions, who are aware of their abilities, and who can
connect scientific-thinking and behaviors with aesthetic values,
who can develop and offer new thoughts, technical discoveries
and modern tools, who can develop projects related to meeting
various needs and solving problems and who aim to use their
creativity and abilities to contribute to the development of the
country with a national and societal grasp in accordance with
the purposes and basic principles of the Turkish National
Education.

In BILSEM, during the application of these programmes,
the main methods are not only lecturing or tutoring but also
encouraging the students;

The New School Term in Turkey started 2012 and with the
new term starts a new Education System in Turkey which has
been called the 4+4+4 system. This system extends mandatory
schooling from 8 years to 12 years.
The schooling years also sees the introduction of vocational
classes starting at 5th year. Children and Parents can choose
from a list of classes, the most controversial class being “The
Quran and the Life of the Muhammad” where girls are also
permitted to wear their headscarves during these classes. Other
classes on offer including Maths, English and Science.

TURKISH EDUCATION SYSTEM

Education in Turkey is governed by a national system which was
established in accordance with the Atatürk Reforms after the Turkish War
of Independence.

Children are obliged to take 12 years of education between the ages of 6
and 18,

Annually, about 1.5 million students graduate from Turkish high schools.
About 95% of students attend public schools, but inadequacies of the public
system increasingly motivates middle-class parents to seek private
education.

By 2012 there were over 167 universities in Turkey. Except for the Open
Education Faculty (Turkish: Açıköğretim Fakültesi) at Anadolu University,
entrance is regulated by a national examination, ÖSS, after which high
school graduates are assigned to university according to their performance

The purpose of primary education is to ensure that
every Turkish child acquires the basic knowledge, skills,
behaviors, and habits to become a good citizen, is raised in line
with the national moral concepts and is prepared for life and
for the next education level parallel to his/her interests and
skills.They have a 4-year curriculum and prepare children for
future higher education.
Primary education is compulsory for all citizens, boys or
girls, and is given free of charge in public schools.
