Combining Faith With Deeds– James 2:14-26

James 2:14-17
What use is it, my brethren, if someone says
he has faith but he has no works? Can that
faith save him? If a brother or sister is
without clothing and in need of daily food,
and one of you says to them, “Go in
peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet
you do not give them what is necessary
for their body, what use is that? Even
so faith, if it has no works,
is dead, being by itself.

Works = ERGON –
labor, toil, deeds
Vs. 14, 20 – What
use is it…if
someone says he
has faith but he has
no works? Can that
faith save
him?....But are you
willing to recognize,
you foolish fellow,
that faith without
works is useless?

Vs. 17 -- Even
so faith, if it has
no works,
is dead,
being by itself.

Vs. 18 -- But
someone may
well say, “You
have faith and I
have works;
show me
your faith without
the works, and I
will show you my
faith by my
works.”



You have faith/I have
works – an incomplete
faith
Show me your faith
without the works – an
impossibility
I’ll show you my faith
by my works – the
position of a faithful
Christian

Vs. 15-16 --If a brother or
sister is without clothing
and in need of daily
food, and one of you
says to them, “Go in
peace, be warmed and
be filled,” and yet you do
not give them what is
necessary for their body,
what use is that?



Be warm and be
filled
God bless you
What can I do to
help?



Let me give you
some food and
clothing
Let me share with
you the blessings
God has given to me.
“I’m going to wash
these dishes for you
so you can sit down
and rest.”

Joshua 2
Receives the spies into
her house.
Lies to the king of
Jericho to protect them.
Hides them from search.
Expressed her faith to
the spies.
Helps them escape.

…for I was hungry, and you
gave Me something to eat; I
was thirsty, and you gave
Me something to drink; I
was a stranger, and you
invited Me in; naked, and
you clothed me; I was sick
and you visited Me; I was in
prison and you came to
Me.”
--Matthew 25:35-36
