WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW…
FAFSA
 Mandatory financial aid application. This will show you how much money
you need. Visit www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov to get an estimate of how much aid
you will receive.
 The earliest you can submit your application is January 1st of your senior
year.
 If you are prepared and complete your application in one session, it will take
3-5 business days to return with your Student Aid Report.
 Keep all documentation!

BBBS & FIVE MILLERS SCHOLARSHIP
 WHAT IS IT?
─ Scholarship established in 2008 by the Five Millers Foundation
─ Provides between $500 - $5,000 a year for 2 or 4 year degrees and
Vocational or Technical programs
─ Renewable every year with application
 APPLICANTS MUST:
− Be a Little in one of the BBBS mentoring programs (community, school
to work, bigs in schools)
− Must be enrolled in school and on track to graduate
− Complete application by April 30, 2013 for Fall 2013 enrollment
− Be accepted to a continuing education program
BRIGHT FUTURES
 WHAT IS IT?
─ The State of Florida offers Bright Futures scholarships to academically
qualified students who decide to attend in-state colleges and universities.
─ Merit-based scholarships based on grades, community service, need,
etc.
 APPLICANTS MUST:
− Have a minimum of a 3.0 weighted GPA
−16 credits of college preparatory classes
− Minimum of 75 community service hours
−Minimum of 980 on the Sat reasoning test or 21 on the act
− Apply senior year – after Dec 1, before graduation
−NEW – complete the FAFSA!
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Learn what training different careers require
• Meet with your school counselor regularly – they are waiting to
hear from you!
• Take courses that meet admission standards: Foreign language,
English, Math, Social Studies, Science.
• Push yourself to take the hard classes
• Register for the SAT or the ACT
• Join clubs, play sports, and volunteer
•Attend college fairs and visits schools that you are interested in.
• Gather information about colleges, financial aid, scholarships, etc.
• Apply for scholarships early!
•If you’re a senior, remember to request your transcripts and letters
of recommendation early!
