Issues:• Drought tolerant varieties and early duration varieties
is required for the state.
• Flood tolerant (Swarna – Sub I) is required for the
State
• Silt deposition in some areas of the State due to heavy
rainfall.
• Due to non availability of Seed Certification Agency
within our State, the Government Seed Farm in Garo
Hills could not produce Certified Seeds except
Truthfully Label Seeds.
Strategies:• Mechanization – More power tillers are required.
• Irrigation facilities – Water harvesting/ Check Dam/
Pipes carrying water to the field/widening of drain is
a necessity.
• Quality seeds for drought like and flood.
• Timely availability of inputs during drought and flood
occurrence.
