How it works



Subscribe to the “feed” from CMS services
Read content either from special application
call “newsreader” or browser
Example, personalized Google homepage
that can subscribe to any feeds (in this
case Google is an aggregator application)

RSS and Atom Protocols



Protocols for publishing messages in the
form of XML that can be displayed in
application
Many browser providers use a “RSS icon”
or “feed icon” to indicate that you can
subscribe to content on that web page.
Both are equivalent in technology and
approach but different structure formats.

Newsreaders (or Reader)

An example of reader are either
browsers or reader applications.


Browser that is a consumer of RSS feed
shows an RSS icon in the address bar.
