Capital Funding Requests

• School Boards require Ministry of Education approval to
build schools
• The YCDSB has submitted 5 applications to the
Ministry for a Cornell School, dating back to 2006
• The most recent request was made in May 2012
• The request was for a St. Joseph Replacement
School, to be built in Cornell
• #1 Priority (of 5 projects)
• The Ministry of Education announced the approval
earlier today!

• Rebuilding a new facility for an existing school
community
• No change to the school’s attendance area
• Recent Examples
• 2012 – St. Michael the Academy, Markham
• 2012 – Holy Name, King City
• 2012 – Our Lady Help of Christians, Richmond Hill

• Re-build on Site (ie. existing St. Joseph location)
• Re-build in a new location
Determining Factors
• Location / Student distribution
• Site design
• Transitional issues
• Board staff have met with the St. Joseph school
community on a number of occasions to discuss this
proposal and receive feedback

• Design/Tender/Construction – to be open for
September 2014
