ANNOUNCEMENTS
• Go back and complete the missed lessons in MyITLab
and get half the points.
• Deadline to gain half credit is 4/27/15.
• Homework # 6 is due on 05/01/15.
INTRODUCTION
• A PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) is an
electronic slide show that can be edited or
displayed.
• A slide is the most basic element of
PowerPoint.
• A slide show is a collection of slides that
can be used in a presentation
ESSENCE OF POWERPOINT
• You
– Focus on content
– Enter your information
– Add additional elements
• PowerPoint
– Provides professionally designed templates
– Gives you multiple layouts to choose from
– Allows flexibility in delivery and presentation
VIEWS
• Normal View – Used to Edit slides
• Slide Sorter View – Used to arrange
slides
• Slide Show View – Used to show slides
INSERTING A NEW SLIDE
• In Normal View and with the “Slides” tab
selected on the left, select the slide after
which you want insert a new slide.
• Add a blank slide one of these ways:
– Press the [Enter] key
– Click the top part of the “New Slide” button in
the Home ribbon / Slides area
ADD SLIDES
• Add 3 slides
– Soccer Positions on the Field
– Word Table
– Excel Chart
WORKING WITH BULLETS!!
• Slides use bullets quite a bit.
• On the second slide that you just added, in
the title box, type “Soccer Positions on the
Field”
• In the text box below it, type Goalie
• Below that type Defense
• Below that type Mid-Field
• Below that type Forward
DESIGN THEMES
• Design Themes allow use of an
established set of colors, fonts,
backgrounds, and other attributes.
• How to get to the different themes?
– Design ribbon Select a theme from
Themes section
– File ribbon New Themes in Templates
area Click a thumb nail of one you like
Click “Create”
ANIMATIONS
• Can use an Animation Scheme provided
with PowerPoint or Customize it.
• Custom Animations offer a wider variety of
possibilities
ANIMATION SCHEMES
• Will apply various animation aspects
automatically to a variety of object types
• More efficient if multiple animation aspects
are desired for general purposes
• Select the title on the slide
• Animations ribbon > Animation group
• Select something
•

Highlight the title
Animations ribbon > Animation group
Click on Effect Options and select one.
Go to Transitions ribbon > Transition
Group
ADDING COMMENTS/ SPEAKER
NOTES
• Select Slide 1
• In the notes pane type:
“This is information for the speaker, not the
projector”
• These are notes for the speaker to review will
not be seen when in Slide Show view
• Whatever you put down there won’t be
projected!
INSERTING OBJECTS
• Download Word table to insert.docx
• Download Excel chart to embed.xlsx
WORD TABLES
• Let’s do a Basic copy operation on a Word
table
• Open the file Word table to insert.docx
in Word
• Select the table with the 4 headed arrow in
the upper left and do a “copy”
• Paste it into the 3rd PowerPoint slide.
EXCEL CHARTS

Go the your 4th slide
Insert ribbon > Text group > Object
Create from file
Browse for Excel chart to embed.xlsx
Select this and move / resize as needed
TWO-COLUMN SLIDE
• Good for Pros and Cons and other kinds
of list best presented side by side
• Add a new slide and change the layout to
Comparison.
• Type “Likes and Dislikes”
FOOTERS
• Insert ribbon > Text group > Header &
Footer
• Check Date and Time
• Check Update Automatically
• Check Slide Number
• Apply to All
HIDDEN SLIDES
• Could be used if a certain part of a
presentation that is used multiple times is
not indeed on one occasion.
• In the left > Right click on the slide you want
to hide > Hide Slide
• That slide will be skipped

ADDING A HYPERLINK

Type “WVU” in the “Text to display” box
Type the following in the address box:
