 CSET/CBEST Examinations-take early (begin late in junior year)  Certificate of Clearance – do 6-12 months in advance of program admission; longer if arrest or conviction record; valid for 5 years

Overview of Multiple Subject Credential Program

 Most programs are two semesters in length.

 Each semester includes coursework and student teaching.

 We also offer a three semester option in which student teaching takes place in the final semester.

 Stop by the Office of Student Services in (EBA 259) and pick up information about applying for a Certificate of Clearance.

Dual Credential Bilingual Multiple Subjects & Educational Specialist Teacher Preparation Program

This dual credential teacher preparation program is designed for Bilingual individuals proficient in Spanish & English seeking a BCLAD credential & who are interested in obtaining an additional credential as an Education Specialist in Mild/Moderate disabilities.

This is an intensive two year credential program for highly committed individuals interested in meeting the specific needs of the English language learners in California.

Student Admission Requirements

  California Basic Educational Test (CBEST) Subject Matter Competency ◦ CSET: Multiple Subjects (all three subtests) or CSET: Single Subject (Math, English, Social Studies or Social Science only) ◦ Admission to Internship Program may require applicants to pass CSET: Multiple Subject. ◦ For ECSE, completion of an academic major closely allied with Early Childhood: Child Development, Speech and Language, Social Work, Psychology or Liberal Studies. If major is not considered to be closely allied to Early Childhood, you may complete Early Childhood coursework before being accepted into the ECSE program (see ECSE Advisor for more information)

Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE)

 Administered by CA Student Aid Commission  Incentive Program to encourage outstanding students to become California teachers in: ◦ Subject areas where critical teacher shortage has been identified ◦ Designated schools that meet criteria established by Superintendent of Public Instruction

APLE – Do you qualify?

 Have completed a minimum of 60 semester undergraduate units  Be enrolled in a program leading to a baccalaureate degree or an approved professional teacher preparation program  Be enrolled each term, at least half time, in coursework through at least the end of the fall term you apply

APLE – Do you qualify?

 Have received, or have been approved to receive, educational loans issued to students through institutions of higher education  Not be in default or become delinquent in any state or federally insured educational loan

APLE - $11K - $19K

 Up to $11,000 dollars paid to your lender(s) over course of 4 years (up to $2K in Year 1, $3K in years 2-4)  Additional $1K per year for math or science (grades 7-12) or special education  Additional $1K per year for teaching these subjects in lowest 20 th percentile API
