Non-fiction - comprehensive information
on a topic, that provide the history,
analysis, or interpretation of the topic.
Fiction – Literary works or novels for
leisure reading

Print – Can be checked out. Call

E-books (or electronic books) provided
by the library
Factual books that provide definitions,
statistics, and overviews of topics.
Examples of these are: dictionaries,
directories, encyclopedias, statistical
abstracts, and handbooks.

How do you locate the books in the library?
For a Print Book:
•
Get the call number from the record in the online catalog.
•
Check the Library Virtual Tour.
•
Use this quick chart listed by Call numbers:
- 000-700 – 1st Floor or Basement
- 800-900 – Main Floor
- R before call number (Reference) – Main Floor
- F (Fiction), SC (Story Collection), J (Juvenile) –1st Floor (Basement) in Alcove
- T, Bapt – Special Collections, 3rd Floor
- Hudson – Lofton Hudson Collection, 1st floor (Basement)
- TESL – Center for Global Education House
- New books and Leisure reading books – Main Floor at entrance

How do you find the information that you need in
the book?
Use:
• Table of contents:
to find what material is
covered in chapters
• Index (usually at the

are covered.
After you find a book for your research assignment,
collect this information for citing the resource:

• Author(s) or editor(s)
• Title of book
• Vol., if multivolume set
• Edition, if given
• Place of publication, publisher, & date of publication
• Pages numbers
An essay or article in a book:
• Book information above
• Author (if given), title, and page numbers of essay or article
E-Book:
• Book information above
• Date that you accessed the site
• Complete URL or web address of the site

2. For an ebook, look for the bibliographic
details of the book:

required for your assignment.
