Deadline for filing bills and joint resolutions other than local bills,
emergency appropriations, and bills that have been declared an
emergency by the governor
• Monday, May 27, 2013 (140th day)
Last day of 83rd Regular Session
• Sunday, June 16, 2013 (20th day following final adjournment)
Last day governor can sign or veto bills passed during the regular
legislative session
Bills Creating New University
• SB 24 – passed by the Senate
• HB 1000 – passed by the House of
Representatives
Appropriations Bills
• Texas Grant funded at same levels as current
biennium
• Top 10% Scholarship award value: $1,500
(Based on preliminary indications, subject to change)
Texas Grant Priority Model
Advanced Academic Programs
 Earn 12 hours of college credit courses (e.g.
dual credit, AP); or
 Graduate under the Distinguished
Achievement High School Plan; or
 Graduate under the International
Baccalaureate High School Program
Advanced Math
 Complete a math course beyond Algebra II
Class Standing
 Rank in top 1/3 of high school class; or
 Attain a B average GPA (e.g. 3.0 GPA on a 4.0
scale)
College Readiness
 Achieve college readiness threshold as
determined by the Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
(e.g. THEA, COMPASS, ASET); or
 Be TSI exempt (e.g. meet minimum score on
SAT/ACT, TAKS).
Texas Grant Proposals
• Student Engagement Program for first year
students
• Require Full Time Enrollment for renewability
• Coordinating Board gets authority to set
award amounts
