1-4 Measuring Segments
(part 1)
Ruler Postulate
The points of a line can be put into oneto-one correspondence with the real
numbers so that the distance between
any two points is the absolute value of
the difference of the numbers.
Coordinate
Position on a line
Congruent Segments
• Segments with the same length
Find the length of each segment.
Tell whether the segments are congruent.
Midpoint
a point that divides a segment into two
congruent segments.
A segment, ray, line, or anything through the
midpoint is said to bisect a segment.
Segment Addition Postulate
If three points A, B, and C, are
collinear and B is between A and C,
then
AB + BC = AC
Example 1
AB = 25
Find x, AN, and NB
Example 2
M is the midpoint of RT.
Find RM, MT, and RT.
Practice
EG = 100. Find x, EF, and EG.
Practice
If Z is the midpoint of segment XY and
XY = 27, find XZ.
