Mr. Fundamentals
Last lesson focused on three
fundamentals of evangelism.
1. The ingredients
2. Some concerns
3. A few strategies
We observed three ingredients
required to have evangelism.
1. The Message
2. The Messenger
3. The Mission Field
The concerns about the message
1. It must be accurate
2. It must be clear
3. It must be verbal
The concerns about the messenger:
1. He must be credible
2. Congregations must be credible
3. Speak heart-to-heart
Concerns about the mission field:
1. Contact ... Avoid “holy huddles”
2. Be IN the world, but not OF it
The strategy for the message :
1. Verbalize it. ( not just example )
2. Speak freely, is no best way
3. Share what you did and believe
The strategy for the messenger :
1. Build redemptive relationships
2. Develop evangelistic skills
3. Bring outsiders to assemblies
The strategy for the mission field :
1. Every member fishes ( not aquarium )
2. Have regular events to introduce
3. Get the word out – be creative
These are the foundation stones.
Let us now build upon them.
Evangelism takes place in life
as we travel down life’s road.
1. Evangelism is a process
2. It is a life-related process
3. Get the word out – be creative
We will observe evangelism
as a four part sentence.
1.

4.
Evangelism is a process
It is a life-related process
God can influence the process
We must be active in the process
I.
Evangelism is a process
John 4: 37–38
For in this case the saying is true,
‘One sows and another reaps. 38 I sent
you to reap that for which you have not
labored; others have labored and you
have entered into their labor.
B. Evangelism is not a point action event.
C. Conversion can take a great deal of time.
D. Think back to your own conversion.
E. We’re not aware of what God is doing.
F. Our Church culture is an obstacle.
Clarification :
Though evangelism is a process
salvation is not :
1. One cannot be 20% or 80% saved
2. One is saved or lost. ... In or out
3. Salvation is renewed spiritual life.
II.
Evangelism is a life-related process.
John 4: 34–35
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will
of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His
work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four
months, and then comes the harvest’?
Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look
on the fields, that they are white for harvest.
Lunch break evangelism :
We don’t have to go somewhere
or assemble a crowd, God has
opened this door for evangelism.
III.
Evangelism is a life-related process
which God can and does influence
Colossians 4: 2–3
Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in
it with an attitude of thanksgiving; 3 praying at
the same time for us as well, that God will
open up to us a door for the word, so that we
may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for
which I have also been imprisoned;
What is the Apostle Paul
instructing us to do ?
PRAY
WHY
Prayer calls upon God
to use His sovereign power
to providentially orchestrate
events in the lives of people.
IV.
Evangelism is a life-related process
which God can and does influence
in which we must be both alert
and active
Colossians 4: 2–3
Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward
outsiders, making the most of the
opportunity. 6 Let your speech always be
with grace, as though seasoned with salt,
so that you will know how you should
respond to each person.
This text addresses a mindset
that God wants for us to have
( Absent this mind set )
We tend to have a lot more
opportunities than we recognize
The key is to take mundane contacts
and use them as a channel for the
presentation of the gospel.
John 4
... I’m asking for a drink, but I
can give a water that satisfies ...
Mark 5 ... Jesus uses diseases
Eccl. 7: 1-2 ... Better the house of mourning,
Luke 13: 4 ... Jesus used a local tragedy
( Who can know when a calamity will befall )
John 7 ... Religious tradition as a springboard
Acts 17 ... The Apostle used false religion to
Acts 16 ... Failure and heartache
The receipt of great blessings.
We are talking about a mindset,
a Christian world view is, above
all else, evangelistic.
Matthew 6: 33
But seek first His kingdom and His
righteousness, and all these things
will be added to you.
Christian
There is no “Plan B.”
God has entrusted
the gospel to
you.
Christian
Are you His missionary
- or Are you still a mission field
We’re all one or the other !
If you are still an outsider
- Place your trust in Jesus
- Be baptized into Him
- Take up His mission ( cross )
Come to
Christ
He will save
you
