OVERVIEW OF GUIDELINES FOR TUTORS
AND STUDENTS
What is ITAS?
ITAS is an academic initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Industry,
Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE).
The program aims to:
• improve academic outcomes for all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
students by providing supplementary tuition,
• supplement normal teaching efforts and cannot be used to substitute or replace
them,
• accelerate educational outcomes for Indigenous Australians beyond those which
could reasonably be expected from the provider’s core resources alone.
How do Tutors register for ITAS?
• You can go to the SIAS website and print off a ITAS Tutor
Application pack
