Encourages all Member States, the United Nations
system and all other stakeholders to take advantage of
the Year to promote actions at all levels, including
through international, regional and sub-regional
cooperation, as appropriate, aimed at the achievement
of sustainable development of small island developing
States;
The Global Launch of IYOS 2014
• The Year was officially launched by the UN
Secretary General on February 24, 2014 prior to
the first prepcom for the Third International
Conference on SIDS which was held at the UN
Headquarters in Feb. 2014.

The IYOS 2014 is an important opportunity for a group of
countries to, inter alia, • Celebrate the accomplishments, culture, food, innovation and
potential of SIDS
• Call attention to the fact that SIDS are important, viable
partners for investment

Remind the international community that they need support
to advance their sustainable development.
