Birth of the Prince
• According to ancient
Indian custom, the Queen
need to returned to her
parents' home for the birth
of her child.
• On her way, in the beautiful
spring sunshine, she took
a rest in the garden called
Lumbini Park.
• While resting under the
Sala tree, she give birth to
a baby boy.

• The prince was born on the day of
the full moon in the fifth month of
the year.

Asita’s Prediction
• The sage called Asita went to
the palace to look at the royal
prince.
• He predicted that the prince
would become a Buddha.
• He was having mixed feelings
(happy and sad) when he saw
the prince, why?
– He was happy because the prince
would become a Buddha

would not live long enough to
listen to the Teaching of the
Buddha

The Naming Ceremony
• Fifth day after birth, many
priests were invited for
naming ceremony.
• Seven priests predicted the
prince would become either
a King of Kings or Buddha.
• Eighth and youngest priest
predicted the prince would
become a Buddha.
• The prince was named
Siddhartha which means
“wish fulfilled”

The Passing Away of Queen Maya
• In the palace, the
happiness of the King,
however, was followed
quickly by sorrow.
• Seven days after the
prince birth, the lovely
Queen Maya passed
away.
