1. At the heart of Jesus’ ministry was concern and
compassion for the sick.
a. Jesus healed the whole person, body and soul.
b. Jesus often used touch as the means to heal a person.
c. On the Cross, Jesus gives suffering redemptive power.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
a. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available
to a baptized person who has a serious illness, not just
danger of death.
b. Those who are elderly are encouraged to receive this
Sacrament.

2. Jesus continues to touch and support the afflicted in the
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
c. Children should receive this Sacrament if they have
sufficient use of reason.
d. Only bishops and priests may be ministers of this

Communion.

5. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick:
a. May, if it is God’s will, restore the person to health.
b. Provides spiritual healing of peace and courage.
c. Renews our faith in God.
d. Helps us to withstand temptations from the evil one.

5. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick:
e. Provides for the forgiveness of sins if he or she was not
able to go to Confession prior to the celebration of the
Anointing of the Sick.
f. Deepens our union with the Passion of Christ.
g. Prepares us for our final journey to the Father’s house.

1. Read Mark 12:1-12. What strikes you from the passage? How
does Jesus display His authority over both spiritual and physical
suffering?
2. The USCCA challenges Christian Communities to reach out to the
sick and dying, especially those who have no one to comfort them.
What can you do to better reach out to those suffering in these
situations?
3. How can suffering become a time to be more closely united with
Christ in His sufferings?
