town where people met and shopped

to catch rainwater
Peristylium - walled garden > a
shrine to the household god was
usually kept in the garden or the
atrium.

Insulae - Rich and poor tenants rented rooms
in five or six storey apartment blocks called
Insulae.
Rich – lower levels
Poor – Higher levels
Mosaics- patterns or designs made from small
pieces of stone , glass or pottery stuck into wet
plaster.
Murals - Walls were decorated with murals
(wall paintings) murals were frescoes – made
by painting on wet plaster.
